Hello,

My name is Janet and I am chairwoman of a pensioners forum in Somerset. My forum recently joined forces with another in this area whose vice chairman has come up with a viable alternative to today's grossly unfair system of council tax.
We have shown his very professional proposal to MP's Council Leaders and other Government officials and they have not been able to find fault with it.
In January we held a meeting which 18 Pensioner Forums attended and again his proposal was met with great acclaim.
Since then we have contacted, in all, 83 forums nationwide inviting them to attend a meeting to decide how we can unite and get this new proposal on the manifesto of each party before the next election.
To say that I am disappointed with the lack of response from other forums would be an understatement as only one new forum has shown interest. Many never even bothered to reply.
This is the best chance we have ever had to bring together all grey power in this country under one heading F.A.C.T Forums Against Council Tax. Have the powers that be in the forums forgotten just why they came into being? Shame on you.
The Tolpuddle Martyrs must be turning in their graves!

It is difficult to respond to apathy.

I have read about Pensioners Forums and this proposal for Council Tax etc.

Is there one website that centralises these Forums?

I am presuming they are restricted to England & Wales?

No, unfortunately there is no central web site for all pensioner forums but am happy for you, or anyone other interested party, to contact me if you think this campaign would be of interest to you (and your forum?) unsure if you belong to one.

I think we have a real problem getting forums out of their comfort zones but to act in unison is the only way we can bring real pressure to bear on whatever colour of Government we have.

The lack of response from forums on this matter leaves me feeling  that we get the government we deserve.

Very True about the government we deserve.

It is obvious that many of 'grey power' who are so vocal at meetings
are 'all mouth and no trousers', when it gets to writing down for all
to read their point or opinion.

Failing to continue that point out of that meeting place equates
to a social outing only.

I realise it is very difficult to achieve a point in this democracy where
you are actually listened to, such is the self protective bureaucracy
that has developed.

More of position and gravy trains.

But that is not a reason to give up. More of one to keep on.
