Hi All,
I looked here a year or more ago, but found traffic was rather slow. However, Googling 'pensioners' brought me here to find some fellow angries - about time!
I chair West Somerset Seniors' Forum, so I know something of our frustrations, especially now as the gov can find many billions to bail out bankers, but we have to waituntil "the economy is suitable" after 2012 before pensions get a rise.
Our biggest problem is we are divided - so many pensioner party groups. So lets collaborate more. There are about 400 local forums known to Help the Aged. Some of these in the south west have joined to form county groups (e.g. Cornwall, Dorset, Somerset) and they have also joined together in the South West Seniors' Network - approaching 40 Forums with well over 23,000 members on their books.
I set up a demo website a year or so ago for which we are in the process of planning extensions. A problem many of our forum officer are finding is that there re only a few (sometimers only one or two) who choose to be active,so the work gets heavy. However, though the swsn.org.uk website is fairly quiet, links still work and you can find if there is a forum near by via a map of the Region.
I suggest we develop contacts between the groups that already exist as a way of mounting a fight back - we don't all have to be in the same group, just keep in touch and vote the same way when the chance comes.
By the way, a local group (Taunton) today met to set up a drive to replace Council Tax with modified general taxation and we (Somerset) hope soon to get a joint statement with the County Council deploring C Tax, just as Devon Pensioners have already done.
Now I'm off to look at the Pensioner Party websites. Do have a look at swsn.org.uk or contact us for more info.
