Hi Chris.
The British never seem to react to fuel price hikes . We moan and just accept them.
In other countries the people force the government to back down.
An example ..
I thiink it was in 2008 , that I was sitting on the beach in Spain and noticed that instead of the odd fishing boat out at sea, there was hundreds of boats in a steady line heading for Alicante.
The Spanish government had recently lowered fuel prices for agricultural use but had not passed on this price to fishermen.
The fishermen blockaded Alicante Port and other places all over Spain . No ships could move.
Within a few days the government gave in and passed the better price to the fisherman .
Would never happen the UK
 ???

Hi Cam

I agree much the same happens in France in most countries the government rules by the will and with the will of the people here we are apathetic in our allowance of the government to do whatever it likes once they take office (note I say office and not power as the government should be in office not in power) and it does not seem to think it is there by the will of the people to do the will of the people.

One of the quirky things that we should take more notice of in the EU and less of the political correctness we seem to adhere religiously to.

Certainly in Canada the government adheres to the will of the people or it finds itself out of office.  I wonder if it has anything to do with the fact we are a monarchy and not a democracy although I am not anti the queen. ???

Interesting note on why diesel is so expensive in the UK

The eagled eyed will may however notice that the price difference between Diesel and Unleaded has widened compared to last year. Again it is tempting to blame the evil petrol companies, but unfortunately the fact is that as fuel prices have risen Europe as a whole has switched more and more to Diesel cars. This is causing a large problem with the oil refinaries who cannot modify their plants overnight and as a result they have to pump out Diesel fuel using less efficient processes. This costs them more and hence the price goes up.

Agreed but I think before you came back you will find the government persuaded people to change to diesel cars as they offered better milage and lower running cost and I think it was argued they were more environmentally friendly however once more people had them the cost started to increase to recoup the lost revenues until we are where we are.

The same will happen to hybrid cars once we all have them the cheap cost of running them will end as any government realises that revenues on fuel and road tax are lost.

By the time the plants are modified we will be using hybrid cars and the whole issue of supply will start again.
