FISHING
« on: July 24, 2008, 09:37:08 AM »
Hi, ::) just found this forum and thought this sounds what i need ,i'll have a little moan , well to me its a big moan ,and wondered if someone would kindly point me in the right direction, i have recently become a pensioner (did i hear you all cheer)well i'm really enjoying being 60, but i have recently come across an issue which made my blood boil,(sorry this is a bit long winded, please bear with me ), i go fishing with my husband who is 67  disabled ,mainly to see he doesn't fall in, and because i did to be with him thought i would fish as well ,as i could watch him close by but wouldn't be so bored as just sitting there, my point is ,, this year i thought ,good i will get my rod licence at  the price my husband does as i'm now a pensioner, not had his gone up from £12 to £16, i was refused the same , as i was not 65, but i'm a pensioner ,isaid to the woman in the post office , sorry , you have to be 65, so i paid the £25, is this correct ,i think i should write to my MP, is that the person to write to , any advice please :-\
 with regards jay-jay :)

You might be a little happier if instead of moaning about a few quid on a fishing licence, you considered how lucky you are, as a woman to get your state pension several years earlier than your husband.

And perhaps you should leave the poor fish alone - they havn't done anything to you!!

Hi, Grahamesme, thank you so much for your imput to my post , i have in the past met so many men with your attitude, no respect for women , that i have decided that this foroum is not where i want to be , you say you opted for a career in the public sector that has given you a decent pension , i'm pleased for you , well me due to my husbands ill health, haven't done so well, were i might have carried on working , in a well paided job ,, had to give that up to look after him , you would problerly say it was my job as his wife , well it did pay £40+,so i shouldn't grumble should i grahamesme, i don't have, as you seem to have , a few quid to throw about, also i'm not grateful that i'm a woman getting her pension before my husband , i hope i speak for all the other women reading this , as you obersley haven't got a woman in your life , or you wouldn't disrespect women that way

So sorry to have upset you, Jay Jay. No, just because I think that it would be reasonable to have the same state pension age for men and women, does not mean that I have no respect for women. In fact you may be aware that the difference is being phased out from 2010, so you will be among the last women to get their state pension at 60. Also, I think you are being too quick to judge the forum based on one post from one person.

You should remember that when you made your original post, you made no reference to your personal financial circumstances - you were simply making the case that every woman should have the right to a reduced cost fishing license five years earlier than men, simply because they had reached age 60, and irrespective of their financial circumstances.

Had you made the case in your post instead for improving the allowances to carers of the disabled, then you would have had my sympathy.

HI jay-jay
I  agree with you about the fishing rod licence i mentioned this subject on this forum in April, after which i  e-mailed my MP peter Bone (wellingborough)
also, Alister darling,  and the environmental agency, uncle tom cobbly and all,
The Question was raised in the house of commons, and Our illustrious leader
Gordon Brown has promised to look into the matter,
MY "Gripe" is the fact that a person  that is not on a fixed income and could be earning 30k-60k a year their licence has gone up by 50p. where as disabled and people on a fixed income the licence has gone up by £4.50,

 Hi charlie Gracie,
Thanks for your reply and views , which i have noted , it was nice to hear an answer to my question about fishing rod license ,instead of being attacked for being a woman getting her penision before her husband , but there you go , takes all sorts , might stay on here after all, the other point i was making was the fact i, as a pensioner couldn't get the reduced rod licence till i was 65, didn't the same problem happen with the bus passes, and they got that changed , women can now get bus passes at 60.
                                                                         regards jayjay

Just as a point of information, in most places it was bus passes for men (rather than women) which were reduced from 65 to 60 - previously they were in line with the state pension age, i.e. 60 for women, 65 for men.
