Hi All

Sorry been trying to post a pic of myself but having problems at the moment

Not as large as I would have liked but give you an idea what I am like although I am now older and slimmer and much fitter.
Just how many active members are on this forum plus 65 years are there I have a feeling this age groups rather out numbered.

hello, I'm a journalist at the Guardian and I'm looking for 74-year-olds to interview about what it's like to be 74 in Britain today. (Recent research suggested that 74 is the age at which people are "happiest".)

Are you 74? If so, could we talk, either on the phone, or in person?

Many thanks,

Susanna Rustin

Hi Susanna,
Don't think you will find any that age group on here and I am 70 years of age. The research must have found people like my self who are in good health and have a second pension so I am able to enjoy life.

But any one who only as a state pension to live on I cannot see them being happy with their lot. Each pension rise the council takes more in taxes  Pension rise this year £2.50 other pensions frozen

Hy Chris, thanks for the welcome message.  I am a 72 year old pensioner and for a long  time pensioners of GB seem to have been ignored.

Since the pensions and earnings link was cut by the Thatcher government in 1980, infact.

30 years and most people's Worlds have moved on.

Thatcher was an angel when you analyse the rip off taxes we all suffer now.

Look at fuel tax for a start.

There is far more tax mugged off the punters then ever before.

If Brown and Thatcher were on the Weakest Link - How many would realise
that Brown is the Weakest Link. The one that lost the most money, sold off
the most assets. Most likely to let the team down and get it wrong.

Brown you are the Weakest Link - Goodbye!

The audience went wild, never before had so many clapped and cheered so hard.

////Thatcher was an angel////????????????????????????????????????

For a start taxation is what is neccesary to invest into all the vital services we all use.  Thatcher cut taxes in the 80's and reduced funding into our vital services.

Thatcher did not believe in the role of the State, so in 1980 she broke the link that kept state pensions increasing as British prosperity increased, and when she cut that link, she introduced the means testing of pensioners on a wide scale.

What New Labour under initially Blair, and now Brown have done is far from adaquate, but the annual winter fuel payment given to pensioners helps them, plus the means tested Pensions Credit also helps them

Now im thinking of the elderly here, and im not a pensioner.

Who are you thinking of ?

We also had food rationing, powdered eggs and had to walk everywhere!

Yes I'm back from my skiing and it was fantastic!
