Hi Sandy, you are wise to think about living on one level after your fall and back trouble. I moved from a very nice block of flats which did have a reasonable service charge which included building insurance, cleaning of corridors and lounge area and other things I can't now remember. It's a good idea to ask one of the tenants the ins and outs of how the place is run before considering buying, and what exactly you get for the service charge. Also who runs the place and is it satisfactory. I would never have chosen one without a balcony, as it is a haven of ones own - especially to sit out in nice weather. Another must is - has the place got a lift. Also a spare room for storage. A few years ago, only because of my age and feeling vunerable I chose to move to sheltered accommodation. I have a ground floor flat, with even a tiny garden on a complex. There is a warden on site in the daytime. Also bell pulls in each room to pull if help needed-
night or daytime. A voice comes over the speaker...."Are you alright." I know mine works because I pulled a cord by mistake! I did have to get rid of some furniture before I moved, but somehow you end up keeping the things that are most useful and valued. Less things to dust too. I wish I had moved sooner as to me the advantages are numerous, one of them peace of mind for me and my family. So Sandy there are a few important things to consider, definately no stairs! sweetpea
