Hi,

Earlier this year, Gordon BROWN, when talking about the emissions from cars said "That we should change our cars regularly, to keep up with NEW Technology" surely this means that he is going to increase my Index Linked Pensions by 300% so that I may do so!

I have written to my MP about this - but he has not deemed to reply, either to confirm or deny it!

Has anyone else "picked on this"?

Why not write to your own MP's about this NEW WINDFALL of Gordon BROWN's!

Hi All
I have just spent the last few days sifting through this sight and i must say its heart warming to see that so many of us care for one an others welfare and are prepaired to stand up and be counted so keep up the great work and fight for your rights.

Am new to the Brighton area, and finding it takes a while to settle in and find others who are out there doing things, so this seems to be a good forum to make contact, albeit virtual.  :)

Was interested recently to hear Gary Fitzgerald from Action on Elder Abuse talking on the radio on 'You and Yours' about Baby P and commenting that although it was a terrible and heart-rending story, the government took immediate action to change the law, whereas if it had been Granny P it would have probably been ignored by them, as has been the case up till now.  Hopefully Joan Bakewell in her new post will be able to make some impact for older people.

Hi petejan,
In answer to your question i don't think you can give your excess national insurance stamps to your wife,
My partner was divorced in 1993, and had  not worked for quite a number of years during her marriage,
bringing up her children.
She had a short fall when she sent for her pension forecast, but was informed she could make this up.
We worked out  the figures and it made sense in her case to do we paid the money over 3 years. she is 60 this year and will now get the
full amount of state pension,  cheers charlie

My name is David and although being a touch off 68 have only recently retired due to a total knee replacement.
Have many interests but they have been curtailed due to the above.
My main reason for wanting to join this forum is in many ways political. How retiring has affected my life.
We are told in early life to save for our retirement. Yes, so the government can take more money off us.
The abolishment of the 10% tax rate has cost me £659:00 per annum.
I have had to cease my monthly contribution to the RNLI.
Council Tax increases by a larger amount than the 5% increase we are receiving in April.
Where do we go from here?????????

  Hi Chris
Thank you for your welcome .
Feeling new to the site right now, and what a great idea to give pensioners
the opportunity, to be able to air their views, problems whatever.
It is as they say, good to be able to communicate with other like minded
 people, read others views.

 Cheers and Hi to all

::) Hi Chris, What a great idea, for pensioners to have their say, and get information. Thank you, and for your welcome.

Hello, everyone, Johnand Jacqui here and most delighted to find this group. We have been living in Africa for the last 40 years, currently South Africa, and well be coming "home" for good this year. In spite of frequent visits to family I feel it is going to be a very different experience for us though I must say that we are ready for it. Fortunately we always kept the pension contributions up so we will have a little something and selling the house here will help, although with the exchange rates these days it won;t buy a place to live. It seems that in Britain one must either be very rich or very poor to do well!!  :)

Looking forward to learning a lot.

Cheers

John & Jacqui

Welcome John & Jacqui

You are quite right about being very rich or very poor. If you ready for the lowest of standards in
behaviour and service. Moving will not hold many shocks.

As you know via the internet, TV and Radio (Satellite). There is little reason not to get the feel of
any Country without actually residing there.

Living in the UK in many areas is turning to one of Surviving...

Thank you, John. I am sure that we will experience some surprises in spite of having made frequent visits, one never really sees the true life in a place when you are just a visitor. We experienced the many illusions of life that prevail there and wondered how such a high perentage of the population were eating out, driving big cars and taking overseas holidays. Well, now we know, it was all done with money lent by banks who did not have any to  people who could not pay it back!!You are right about info on the internet, there is an absolute overload although it is particularly non-definitive and we are always told that we will be given all the help that we need when we arrive. One gets the sense that everything has come full circle since the 60's, there were no jobs and no money then either.

For me the sttrangest paradox is that of the "minimum wage" whereby one works for a fiver an our thus earning 830 a month. You then deduct 100 or so for tax, another 100 for Council Tax, pay 500 for rent, cycle to work and that then leaves you 130 to pay lights and water, feed and clothe your family and entertain yourself.

That there are services at all is wonderful, we have no public transport, the police are either scared to come out or have smashed all their cars  and you cannot get an ambulance because they are all in the townships dealing with stabbings, rapes and gunshot wounds. Oh yes, private health care only!! Wee are quite looking forward to "civilisation" again.

Happy days!!

John & Jacqui

Thanks for your welcome, I have joined to find out if other pensioners are being made to pay back tax which they say is due to the scrapping of the 10p rate 2 years ago. I have had my personal allowance raised by £460 & a rise of £226 on my company pension, but due to the change in code from 308p to 217p
I received 10p a month increase on the private scheme.

Nothing would surprise me with this present government.

I am hoping to hear from someone who supports them?

Supporting them to run a Country into the ground...

the only way to get anything done would be to put this gov't out to grass but with the proviso they had to exsist on our basic pension; which of course will never happen!
