This is why I came onto this site.  We are so powerful - I want to find other like minded pensioners who feel they are being robbed.  I have just had a tax demand - and I paid into SERPS for over 25 years?  I am being taxed into poverty after working for 45 years.  It is happening to many many women who retire at 60.  Are you out there?
Where do I sign up?

Hi Pauline and Cassy...Nice to talk to you !

I voted for direct appeal to each constituency MP, ( after all, that is what they are there for ), as I doubt very much if enough people would get off their backsides to march on ten Downing Street.

Anyway, the big fences that have been erected at either end of Downing Street now don't allow any pressure groups to aproach the PM's office any more.

I am pleased that the two big parties have been given a bloody nose at the election as the resulting hung parliament will ensure that what happens now in our parliament will be much fairer with the Liberal democrats as deal-makers or breakers.
Regards....

Papaumau.

Err what bloody nose Pap? Yes, neither of the two biggies got a majority but at least Brown has been shown what the people think of HIM!

As I've said befor anything is better than another five years of Labour.

Sorry I dont agree.

At least "New" Labour have helped the poor, somethng the Tories would, and will, never do.

You are either too rich to care, or a poor fool ?

Papaumau, In his speech a short while ago Cameron has enforced through the media that the Deficit is number one priority.

Due you think he would dare cut the benefits for pensioners given by New Labour ?.

If now, how due you think Cameron will cut the Deficit. ?

You said it CC.....If neither the Tories nor the Labourites get a working majority in parliament that means that they DO NOT have a remit to govern.

If that is not a "bloody nose", nothing is !

I am REALLY pleased that if the Labourites or the Tories want to do ANYTHING in this government they are going to have to go cap-in-hand to the Lib Dems or the others to get enough votes to do it.

THAT is exactly what I wanted as it is going to mean that democracy will have to be fully applied in the next four years or more.

Ivanhoe...I don't think that the Liberal Democrats will let the Tories BE Tories in the months and years to come as any such damaging policies would have to be passed by a co-alition.

There is a massive wedge between the Tories and the Lib Dems and I am sure that Nick Clegg will enjoy hammering many of the more reactionary Tory policies that will be tried on.

At least I hope so.

I really think it is time to bring in proportional representation. Or current system is shambolic.

Agreed, but the P.R. system doesnt suit the Tories.

Europe have had P.R. for decades, which is why the EU is democracy in action.

If we are to tell the truth, the PR system doesn't suit the Labourites EITHER.

I think that if this change is to come - as HG suggests it should and many of us here agree - the subject would need to go to the people in a referendum.

I have confidence that any such referendum would be successful as most sentient people in Britain know that the first-past-the-post system is a total carve-up of democracy anywhere it happens.

Papaumau, I think New Labour do want P.R, but in general how can this happen in a referendum, when the Tories dont want P.R, and the Lib-Dems would be insignificant in a minority Tory government ?
