If a referendum is decided on this subject, the government, ( whatever government ), would need to implement the result whether they agree with it or not.

Remember that FPTP works VERY well for the Labour seats too !

Papaumau, Im saying that the Lib-Dems in a Tory government would not have the power to call for a referendum on P.R.

Not unless Cameron and his government cave in and let through PR as part of an alliance deal.

Frankly, I also cannot see this happening.

If Nick Clegg does not tie up the Tories to a deal on PR the Lib Dem activists are going to burn him.

Mind you, as there are a number of differing types of Proportional Representational voting systems....

See this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proportional_representation

I think that the Tories might try some of these instead of the full, ( STV ), or Single Transferable Vote type of PR.

The STV system of PR would be disastrous for both the Tories and the Labourites in any future elections and that is why it is going to be difficult for Clegg to get either of them to agree to it.

I guess we shall see very soon what happens with this.

I would not be surprised if the Tories try to form a minority government and lift and lay supporting votes in the future. After all that is how it works in Scotland !
