Interestingly enough, today whilst taking the Grandchildren to Rutland Waters we passed a whole load of Allotments, they said look at the gardens and we had to then explain they were allotments, you can guess then where the conversation went i.e. "what are allotments" etc,
We explained all about growing your own food and what happened during the war, that then opened a can of worms (pardon the pun) about the war etc, the conversation finally finished when we arrived at our first stop, but we had a lovely conversation with kids who asked some very deep questions like did the Germans nick all of our potatoes then?

its incredible the conversations you have with youngsters when you talk allotments they become history lessons as well.
