No, not necessary as each cylinder in a 500cc twin was only 250cc and that is quite easily compressed with a half decent kick 8)

I know a 250cc can give quite a good kick back so I can just imagine what 500cc could do. 8) 8)

I can just picture you on a pink scooter  with all the mirrors and tight ice blue jeans (I remember when you sat in the bath in them to shrink them to you) ;D

Definitely a mod, made my own clothes too so my skirts were well and truly full (later though that changed and I could hardly get on a bus because they were too tight) hair backcombed to an inch of it's life and my boyfriend(now husband) had a scooter, ahhh such memories. ;D
It wasn't me!!!

Oh goodness me, I do think of myself as a Hippie and I love patchouli perfume.  We used to go swimming in our jeans to make them skin tight but as to the scooter my best friend had a Lambretta which I envied but my parents wouldn't let me have one.  I had to wait until my 50th birthday for a scooter and I was such a nervous driver I was a danger so gave it up.  So sad :-[

P.S. Thanks for the welcome.

I was all flick up hair black eye liner, pale lipstick and Mary Quant, so fitted neither of these images. Spent a whole month's wages on a pair of pink suede knee high boots, but I did go to the Hammersmith Palais a few times, does that count?

There was a finger lever on the L/H handlebar that when pulled, lifted the exhaust valve (I think) to release the huge compression on such a large cylinder. If you got it wrong and you pushed down on the kickstart as the piston came up on the compression stroke, and it fired, the kickstart litterally threw you off the bike! :'(

I've been blown over a garden wall when a Vincent Black Shadow kicked back!
