Unfair treatment of Pensioners - lets make our voice heard.
« on: April 11, 2011, 09:39:33 PM »
It seems to me that the only way that pensioners are going to make their voice heard is to start a campaign on the net. The best way to spread the word I have found is via Facebook. Please give your support and get together to have our feelings noticed. There is a Facebook page at this link http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/National-Pensioners-Convention/100118803408450

Let's make our voice heard.

Here is an email i received to-day. Read and lobby!!!!!

Last week, I emailed you to let you know how close we came to winning on some amendments to the Pensions Bill in the House of Lords – amendments that would have reduced the impact of the government’s unfair changes to the state pension age that are making thousands of women wait up to 2 years longer for their pension.

We now know that the Bill is due for it third reading in the Lords at the end of April – that means that it’s likely to move to the House of Commons in May.

This could be our last chance to stop these changes. We need to convince MPs to oppose them in Parliament. That’s why we have called a local 'weekend of action' on April 15th and 16th. We need as many people as possible to go and see their MPs in their local constituency surgery, and explain why the government’s plans are unfair.

Help us take this campaign to the next level. Sign up now to lobby your MP next weekend:

http://www.unionstogether.org.uk/weekendofaction

Together, we’ve put together a huge petition against increasing the state pension age, thousands of people have emailed their Members of Parliament, and we’re currently creating a campaign video with the stories, photos and voicemails many of you sent us last week.

But the only way we can stop this is to get as many MPs as possible to understand why these changes are unfair, and to agree to oppose them in the House of Commons. Letters and emails can only do so much - the most powerful way to persuade MPs is to go and talk to them, to make this issue personal.

Lobbying your MP is easier than it sounds – they hold weekly surgeries in their constituency in order to meet local people and listen to their concerns. And we’ve put together a simple guide to lobbying your MP to help you - from making an appointment, to what information you should look up before you go, to what arguments you can use to persuade your MP.

Sign up now to go and see your MP on our weekend of action:

http://www.unionstogether.org.uk/weekendofaction

Together, we can make sure every single Member of Parliament gets the message that these pension changes are unfair, and we won’t accept them without a fight.

Time you formed an official Pensioners Party in old England. We have in Scotland. It took 33000 votes in the Scottish Parliamenaryt Elections last week.  Not enough to take any seats. But we were the sixth ranked party behind the 'big four' plus Greens - Labour, Lib Dem, Tory, SNP and Green who all took seats.  But then we formed up at short notice, and unlike all those above who were on the TV every night  - we were not ever on - bar for a one night 2 minute election broadcast we paid for on BBC.  Cant say any of the big nationals papers  mentioned us either.  Its a beginning - and  the Scottish Pensioners are at least beginning to think about where to put their votes. This is a critical time for todays and tomorrows UK pensioners, our youngsters, its their future.  So time you Englanders done the same. We both have Local Council Elections next year - I think. See other comments under Topic English Pensioners Party.  Have a braw day, hoots man!

Last week I was asked to click a petition to stop the death sentence of a gay man in Uganda.  apparently 1.5 million clicked world wide and this has been successful in stopping the sentence being carried out.  do we have anyone amongst us who could set up such a petition and if so and people think it is a good idea we could ALL e-mail it to pensioners we know whether individuls or groups?  What does anyone think?
