During the war we got 2 oz a week which I used for anything I could get. Lucky bags filled the gap. Before the war my favourites were lollipops and sticks of rock. Mainly because the shop where I bought them put a ticket inside the wrapper of some that gave the recipient a large lolly. Of course, I never found one in mine and I never knew anybody who did. My memories mainly centre round Christmas and those novelty sweets. The kids nowadays don't know what they are missing.

does anybody remember meloids(tiny little black sweets)? I bought some menthol snuff (white) once when I was a kid,sniffed some up my nose and the next thing I knew was my nose started pouring with blood.

What about the small ha'penny sticks of hard liquorice,got the cane a time or two at school for chewing it during lessons., locust beans and Spanish wood,wouldn't think you could get them nowadays.I used to sell my little chits D, in the ration book too,got more liquorice that way.

Do you remember Arrow bars. They were lovely chewy toffee and lasted ages. I swear I remember them being a ha'penny then they went up to a penny.

Refreshers,milk chews,mojos, fruit salad,sherbert fountains,penny arrow bars,flying saucers,You name it,I liked it.Trouble is I used to eat them at school and couldn't clean my teeth afterwards,and my teeth have paid the price ever since.    Cry
