PENSIONERS RIGHTS
« on: December 10, 2008, 10:04:06 AM »
Hello Everyone,
Just to let you know that I will be standing at the local elections, next May, as an Independent.
My intention is to be the voice of the 'forgotten generation'.
Please check out my website,  you are invited to post comments.

I don't think it is so much the 'forgotten generation'

We are living in an age that you can make yourself forgotten.

Have you got any local issues that you support?

The TV Licence is a Tax. It is as simple as that. It pays for some very fat cats to deliver some
pretty basic product, normally vulgar.

Prescription Charges are a Tax etc. etc.

Hello John
The local issues include, flood defence, affordable housing for the young to get onto the property ladder, youth clubs on many estates, so that the youngsters have somewhere to go and something to do instead of wandering the streets.
Suitable parking spaces for the disabled are also important.
The elderly and disabled to be able to use their bus passes on the Dial a ride service.
I have succeeded in ensuring that the bins are collected for the elderly and disabled living on a mobile home park locally.
These are just some of the issues I have been looking into locally.
There are many more issues which will come to light as time goes on, I am sure.

I agree with you regarding the TV license, the pensioners are expected to pay the say for their license, gas and electric as other people who have employment, and those who are wealthy, this is indeed very unfair.
I do hope that this answers your question.
Best wishes
Faye

Hello Faye

It does answer my question.

All those matters show great government failing over the last 12 years.

When people were promised so much. Perhaps that was just for the Bankers?

Of course pensioners are the forgotten generation.  If the State pension had been linked to male average earnings since the 80's, pensioners would not have been forgotten.

I can tell you WHY Seffie......

It is because this kind of taxation is just another way to swell the treasury coffers.

When the government, ( any government ), are trying to get revenues from us they have to use as many ways as possible to get this money in. While they do this they never stop to think if this or that tax is a fair one or not so long as it keeps rolling in.

All governments of the past have been literally terrified of the reaction that they would get if they put up direct taxes and that is why they have always tried to find different ways to get our money out of our pockets, including via STEALTH taxation methods.

If they were to do the right thing and stop taxing the pensioners, ( which I agree should be done ), they would have to get this lost revenue from somewhere else.

I am sure that you AND me could think of many ways that they could do this, but they will not tax the rich as it is the rich that control the power.
Regards....

Papaumau.

Hi again Seffie....

VAT is one of the so-called "stealth" taxes as it is taken from our pockets AFTER we have already paid income-tax on our cash. This tax is not one that we can choose to pay - or not - as apart from a few items such as baby-clothes and newpapers etc' we all pay it whenever we consume.

As the tax is the same for rich people as it is for poor people there is no "ability to pay" segment written into it and what that means is that the rich are taxed at the same rate as the poor are when we are consuming.

VAT was originally planned to effect only luxury items so that the people who had the money to be able to afford to buy luxury items would be able to pay that little extra for them. ( This tax replaced purchase tax as it was said to only be charged on the "added Value" of items/services presented for sale ).

Nowadays VAT is chargeable on many goods and services that it was not originally designed to be charged on and it has become just a very good way to get cash out of the pockets of all of the populace, whether they can afford to pay it or not.

Regards....

Papaumau.

VAT was in fact the tax levied to pay for the common market

No need for caps my dear !

The thing is that if we want to live and consume, ( which is very difficult NOT to do ), we have to pay VAT.

The only way to avoid paying VAT is to not consume at all.

To do that we would have to live in caves in the hills and eat berries and the odd rabbit that we could trap.

I think we have moved on from the days of being cave-dwelling hermits, don't you ?

If there is no "ability to pay" segment in ANY tax the rich pay the same tax as the poor. Surely you are not going to say that that is right.

And as much as we might like to say that, it was actually created to replace purchase tax.
