Of course I think that the ones that can afford to pay more SHOULD pay more so that the ones that cannot afford heavy taxation get a bit of a break.

The trouble with the way that the taxation game goes at the moment the rich actually pay less than the less well off pay by ratio of income.

Remember, your original post said:

"WHY CANT THEY PUT VAT UP .THAT MEANS EVERY ONE PAYS"

Yes, but as I have already said......VAT is not varied by the ability of people to pay it. It is charged at the same rate across the board.

Seffie....

I am NOT sermonising, I am just trying to stimulate conversation.

If you choose not to converse with me then that is fine !

Go back to your one-liners if that is how you like to do it.

Britain's rich pay less income tax and council tax in proportion to income than the rest of us.  What happened to the Lib-Dems abolishing council tax in favour of a local tax based on ability to pay ??????

The Lib-Dems abolished their local tax plans ages before the general election.

This also happend in Scotland when the SNP tried to introduce a local income tax instead of the hated council tax. Because the SNP are a minority government up here they found that the other political groups - especially the New-labour group, in opposition - would not support the introduction of a local income tax as a replacement for the council tax.

THIS is still on the agenda of the SNP whenever they can get the support they will need. Maybe after the next elections in May 2011 we could find that the SNP government will have enough votes to go it alone.
