AAArgh!! Just knew Tommy Steele would come up, I liked his music and he was a very sound, talented guy. I was though a huge Elvis fan.
My 'screech' is to do with when my parents bought a radiogram, one of those that you could put several discs on and they clunked down on the turntable after the last one finished. Our parents gave my sister and me money for a record each, she went for Tommy and I bought Little Richard's Tutti Frutti, our parents liked Tommy but took an instant dislike to my choice, I was allowed to play it once more and then told I would have take it back to the shop! Very embarassing for a young teenager, but in those days you did as you were told. My Dad however never forgot it and almost to his dying day, he was wont to say, we shouldn't have made you do that, you should have kept your record.
Moving up the scale of music ages, who remembers Jerry Lee Lewis and his leg on the piano? And those miserable sounding Everley brothers' Cathy's Clown. Who was it that recorded Hiawatha, liked that. I have to say that for me, Elvis reigned throughout the jive years; I really only stopped liking his music when he sang all those soppy songs in the films he made, apart from Jailhouse Rock.
Best wishes
