In the news.
« on: November 11, 2011, 11:45:21 AM »
Our local paper was asking for tales from the past and I sent in this article below because none of my hubbys family seem to remember much about it. BUT me being me wants to know more.
I was quite amazed to find that the editor has made into half a page of reading for those who buy the paper of which many hundreds of copies are sold because it holds all the news of the surrounding areas and villages in the East Midlands.
I am hoping that someone's memory can be jogged just to give us a few more details.
Sorry that the photo is rather faded although that IS NOT the bus that used to house the piano which was placed I understand at the back of the driver plus the poor condition of the cutting out of the paper from years previously.
Keep your fingers crossed for me that someone will have more details or whose parent/s used to travel on it.
For those who cant read the tiny cutting from a previous issue that was printed many years ago this is what it says. "Charles Tivey of Shepshed said he can remember the piano bus owned by Jackie Walker of Queens Street Shepshed. The bus was bought more than 70 years ago for £800. The piano was at the back of the driver and in fine weather the roof would slide back. Mr Walker owned three or four other buses that ran between Shepshed and Loughborough."
It would be well over 80 years now when that bus was purchased.

Hi Maywalk, Jeff has a friend living in Sheffield who is a "bus buff", when he contacts him next he is going to ask if he knows anything about "your bus". Will let you know.  :-*
Never look down on anyone, unless it is to offer your hand to help them up.

Many thanks Rita.

Just had a phone call from hubby's cousin saying that her dad used to drive it and she said that she can remember her dad saying that they had many a good time on it.

If that chap does get back to you I have a bit of information about the chassis numbers of the buses that my f-i-l owned plus the year it was bought and what make it was which might help him if he is interested.
Its just trying to establish which bus it was that held the piano and if possible getting a photo of it.
