Ann Widdicombe
« on: April 30, 2011, 10:58:07 PM »
I watch Piers Morgan this evening with Ann Widdecombe as his guest, she was never really one of my favorites in Parliament, however, I did know that she worked hard for her constituancy and was pasionate about her work and politics for which I admired her for.

I thanked her when she was on Strictly Come Dancing for all the belly laughs she gave me too, but actually felt sorry for her tonight when Piers asked her "If I could wave a magic and and give you anything again that you have encountered in all your years so far, what would it be?" and she replied "Paso doble Week because the was the most fun I have ever had ever"

How sad, that a woman who has devoted her life to making others lives better, no matter if you think she was good or bad, that a silly programme about dancing is the one thing she would like to re-live. :(

Oh I can fully understand it & I would doubt that you've had a career in the public services.

If you'd spent 30 years in a 'Yes Minister' time warp then you'd probably say the same as Anne because Strictly must have been a breath of fresh air for her.

I am trying to think if there is anything at all in my life I should like to re-live.  I suppose there must be but given my advanced years I can't remember what it is, sadly!  Getting a short story published possibly.

Regardless of the politics I love her quick humour or put downs she is someone at peace with herself, knows herself, is aware of her faults and content with her life and that is all one can ask

I don't know why Ann Widdicombe's been singled out, you could use the same argument for every one of the participants!

Participants?  We were speaking about Ann Widdicombe as the title of the thread implies which is why she is 'singled out'!

She is a great lady from Wessex, I remember when she used to visit a certain CoffeE bar in Bath! Why should not a single Lady HAVE SOME FUN?

The pedantics of my post don't really matter, I'm pointing out that there's no difference between Ann Widdicombe & every other celebrity contestant, but if someone wants to create a thread which names her in particular I don't have a problem with it.

Avalon, where does it say, on this thread, that Single Ladies can't have fun??  nowhere.
Your line 'She is a great lady from Wessex' reminds me of a naughty little poem I know, and it fits Anne W very well, but I daren't put it on here because it might offend someone.

I did not say single ladies should not have fun! - I know the poem you refer to and so does Miss Widdecombe - its a bit smutty 'schoolboyish'

Avalon, sorry but I think you have not read what I put properly, I didn't say that you had said 'single ladies should not have fun' I was saying nobody on this thread had mentioned anything like that,  so I didn't quite understand why you were asking the question re single ladies.

Actually the poem I know is not about Anne W, but like I said, it fits her nicely, so I don't think it's the same one you mention, and anyhow, unlike you I don't know what smutty 'schoolboyish' jokes are, as I have never mixed with smutty schoolboys, being brought up quite strictly in a religous manner.  :)

Oh dear, when I started this thread I really did not think I was going to start WW3, all I was saying that I felt sorry for Ann Widdicombe because after all the years she has lived, all the wonderful things she had done and experienced, all the people she had met, the one thing that she could think of was one week learning and dancing the Paso Doble.

Dottie  :) :) :) no, no, no, you haven't started WW3, have you forgotten what a war is like? wars are not nice at all.    No, we are all just discussing Anne W and smutty schoolboys.   I really found Anne W very amusing when she was dancing and admired her guts, I think any woman who doesn't mind it at all when people are laughing at her is to be totally respected, especially as she laughed with us.  I would like to see her doing the skating programme next. :)   Thank God for women with a sense of humour like her!
