Pensions Select Committee
« on: May 18, 2011, 08:39:29 AM »
Work and Pensions Committee - membership
The members of the Committee were appointed on 12 July 2010.

Member Party
Dame Anne Begg (Chair)  Labour
Harriett Baldwin  Conservative
Andrew Bingham  Conservative
Karen Bradley  Conservative
Alex Cunningham  Labour
Kate Green  Labour
Mr Oliver Heald  Conservative
Glenda Jackson  Labour
Brandon Lewis  Conservative
Stephen Lloyd  Liberal Democrat
Teresa Pearce  Labour

I read this with dismay when I first read the 'Pensions' Select Committee is actually according to the web the Works and Pensions Select Committee and second Glenda Jackson is on it - does anyone recognise any of the above as their MP?

Christine have a look at this!   How much do Select Committee Chairs get paid?

£80,319 (including MP's salary of £65,738) from 1 April 2010.

I have sent you some very interesting information and data about each member of the select committee via e-mail.

Read it Dottie and it makes depressing reading when only 4 out of 11 select committee members have bothered to ask or write questions to the house

I have printed it off

I can't believe that many of those on the committee will be struggling by on the basic retirement pension when their time comes. Obviously it must be nearly impossible for them to have any idea of how the other half (or more) actually do have to exist. There have been T.V. programmes where `celebrities' spend a week living someone else's life. Perhaps it would have more impact if they had to  do it for a month or more. First hand experience is a wonderful teacher.

I saw these programmes and we could all do without the luxury for a week they need to try it for a year.

I am always amazed when I read MP bio's as they do not seem to have professions, life experience and most view it as a well paid 'job' rather than a vocation to serve the public - we are on the bottom of the list when it comes to their work commitment

My MP has four surgeries a week three weeks a month for one and a quarter hours with fifteen minute appointments (yes Gloria I am talking about you just in case you tune in) which means she see's five people a day for four days for three weeks means she see's 60 constituents a month out of 80+ thousand people.

Can I have a job like that for 68k a year ???
