Papa, no interest was charged what these people paid back was just the amount that was loaned in the first place by the charitable organisations.

Whilst listening they had a young lady on the radio who's mother was one of the first reciprocates of this scheme in her village, they had no banks nearby and no chance to open an account as she had no money, this charity found the closest bank, opened the account for her so that they could pay the money in for her, thus cutting out any middlemen :P, and twenty years later she and many more in the village are thriving.

Her two daughters and one son have been able to go to school and onto collage and are now making their own ways in life, the daughter who was on the radio was a lawyer in her own country now but was visiting the UK and phoned in when she heard the radio programme to give her version of what happened to her mother. :)

There is no doubt that this is an excellent Idea, but like all such good ideas they have to either be run freely by unpaid volunteers or they have to make a small profit some way so that they can stand on their own two feet.

The business of handling money for other people can be a minefield as often there are inbuilt temptations that can make criminals out of the best of people.

This one seems to be working fine but I wonder how long it will last if it depends on unpaid volunteers.

Sorry Dottie, but my faith in the human animal is not very strong as I have seen so much abuse heaped on abuse between people because of all of the temptations that are out there that we have to resist.

Yes, I am a cynic...I know !
Regards....

My Dad a fluent Urduh speaker was with the Ghurkas in the 2nd WW.
He said he would rather have them on his side than on the other. And some tales he told of them !
And the thanks the British give them, well you see it !
We are in danger of cutting our own throats for a few bucks.
