Thats the thing, did Blair claim he was a socialist. Methinks that he may well have not, only he led a Socialist Party. It would be like Pol Pot taking over as a conservative leader. We only finding out when he had done his deeds.
That is the betrayal legacy he left behind !
Oh quite right about the OLD BOYS CLUB, the Eaton, Harrow, Oxford conspiricy. There all in it !

Hi David G.....

While I agree with much of what you said there I STILL cannot agree that Blair was anything like a Socialist.

Your first link showed that while shoved into a corner he would pay lip-service to being one but his actual efforts and his subsequent actions after he was booted out of power showed that he was not and never will be one.

The second link just showed that the media just love to play games with the fact that while he was supposed to be a "Labour" man his New-Labour government were just as bad if not worse than the Tories that went before.

Angelo....

While Blair led what was ostensibly a "Socialist" party, I can tell you now that his New-Labourites were not that kind of a party or government at all.

He pulled a fast one by dragging the old Labour party right over to the far right so that he could gather a lot of disenchanted ex-Tory voters over to his camp. He was successful in this which was highlighted by the large landslides he won when asking for election. Now that he has shown his true worth - out of politics - we all know what he really was: a chancer and a player that conned the British people royally.
Regards....

Papaumau. We're in agreement about Blair, that's the point I'm making, most politicians will say whatever is needed to get the job, it's all about power, their career and how much they can make out of it, in other words, I'll be whatever you want me to be if the money is right, the newspapers just show them up for what they are, hypocrites.
I know it doesn't sit easy with your beliefs but I say once again, it's human nature to ask what's in it for me? don't most pensioners do that? because I certainly do.

Yes David G, we are all to a lesser or greater extent victims of our own needs and desires and as human-beings we are all terrible flawed. Having said that I do not think that we should all simply pull the duvet over our heads and hide from the "cruel world" of selfish humans as even IF many of us - or them - are like that I do think that there are many who try not to be.

We have to hope that democracy works as if it doesn't we have nothing left with which to put our hopes and needs into.

I guess that while your last paragraph above is true I guess that we also have to try hard for fairness as well as without fairness in the mix we see the present situation just getting worse and worse as the days go by.

As greedy and self-absorbed individuals we can do little - alone - to get what we want so we have to either get into politics and play their game or we have to try to direct our political servants to fight for this fairness that we all need.

What I am talking about here is public opinion as even if the politicians like to wallow in their perks and their payments, they also want to hang on to these jobs. In order to do this they HAVE TO listen to public opinion and they have to at least try to fulfill our democratic wishes.
