It seems the UK populace is generally ignorant on the machinations of the EU and hardly qualified to vote on the subject.  Given the current hype on the BBC with its daily reports on a USA election months away perhaps it would do the public a service by giving as much tv/air time to matters European?

Am I right in thinking that most people expect Germany to foot most of the bill. To suggest that German demands are an extension of past German plans is stretching credibility a little too far. The silly thing is that many if not most of us in this country are of Germanic origin, weither we like it or not.

If Germany is going to foot the bill then let them set the terms and conditions.

As I have said (boringly) many times before, the EU is not a democracy.  When did you last vote for a European Commissioner?  The only vote we have is for the toothless talking shop that is the European Parliament who are just there as a sop to the masses, making believe that there is some democracy. Commissioners are all decided by the "old boys club" of politicians, who have mainly failed in their own country (Niel Kinnock et al) giving them the opportunity to remain at the levers of power and dictate laws and regulations without redress, whilst collecting a fat salary, masses of perks and a huge pension after only a few years.  Remember they actually considered making the warmonger Tony Blair EU President with no thought of democratic vote.  Luckily this was prevented by his arch enemy Gordon Brown (the best thing he did).  Unfortunately we then got saddled with that excuse for a politician Hermen Van Crumbly!!

As far as the Germans go, I have little sympathy.  When the Euro began, along with France, they knew that they were letting in basket case countries, but turned a blind eye to endemic corruption.  Now that's coming home to roost, the rules are being bent again to prop up a perverted ideal.  The German people have realised this and many would prefer the return of the Deuchmark.  If Merkel gets it wrong she will be out and the Euro will be history.

If that's not wishful thinking nothing is !

There are many people in Britain that are so psychologically biased about Europe in any form that they cheer when anything goes wrong there and they don't even notice when things go right and this rather large - and getting larger - club starts to use it's massive trading power to exert sanctions.

I have always thought that if we want to trade with all of Europe we cannot just cherry pick with some of the states and ignore the others just because we don't like their politics. If the EU was ever to treat us like that we would very quickly find out exactly which side our bread is buttered on.

I say, either we are IN or we are OUT and it is time that we stopped playing this silly Tory game with Europe.
