As the owner of another consumer forum I only found this one by accident and I have been extremely pleased that it seems to have come to life again. I hope that I had some small hand in this !

As a pensioner myself I am bitter about how we have been treated by successive governments in Britain and I feel that every web-presence like this one is another weapon that we can use to tell the encumbent politicians that we have simply had enough.

( Be certain-sure that this forum and all of the other forums that handle subjects like these are closely monitored by government departments that advise the powers-that-be about what matters to us ! ).

The big abuse of the pensioners in Britain started when Thatcher removed the connection of our pensions with the average wage in this country and attached it to the inflation rate.  ( The New-Labour government that followed Thatcher's and Major's government did nothing to re-connect this standard ). Since then the pensions of our elderly have been eroded away so badly that we are now sitting LAST in the rates-scale of the pensioners in the richest countries of Europe. This is just plainly wrong and we should not listen to the mealy-mouthed excuses as to why our pensions are so low as it is the right of every citizen in this modern world NOT to be imprisoned in poverty if we have earned our retiral via a lifetime of work and paying our taxes.

( Brown has promised to re-connect this link but he is not going to do it for FIVE years ! ).

There are NO excuses for the elderly people of Britain to be treated this way and because it is as it is we are going to have to fight back and let every government that comes in know that we are not going to stand for this abuse any more.

Because of the great work - towards this end - that this and other websites are now doing I have decided to add a special sub-forum to my own consumer website that is dedicated to the pensioners of Britain.

Please, if you can find the time, come on over and add your valued opinions there too.

Well folks...do you not agree that this forum is doing a "great job" ?

We should all appreciate the work that goes into setting up and supervising such a forum as those of us that know about these things are well aware that such "open-to-the-world" forums are easy targets for internet destroyers, ( also known as Trolls ).

Consumer-related forums like this do a valuable job of bringing the needs of the demographic that they serve to the eyes of many people who might not otherwise be interested.

As far as the "silver surfers" and other internet-users are concerned it is places like these that help all of us get the fairness and justice that we deserve.

It is indeed good to see the forum has livened up. However I have had to delete several posts from a number of different people because they were insulting other members. By all means sensibly debate a topic, but please let's not have any personal attacks against members we disagree with.

Seeing as we now have a lot of political topics I have created a separate board for Politics, to prevent the General Discussion board being swamped by them, as not everyone wants to argue politics.

Anyway, you are right that many of the problems associated with being old these days are directly connected to what our governments do or don't do for us and because of this I don't think that you should be surprised that many of the pensioners here want to talk about how the government - any government - have let them down.

A politics forum is a good idea but I found on my own forum that when I did this it it drew postings away from the generic threads.

The problems of "personalities" getting into the mix are legend in online forums and sometimes it is hard to keep the discusssions hot and interesting without them getting out of control.

I have found that a few warnings followed up by a short-term banning is all that is necessary to get them to behave.

OH! you're no fun. A few insults here and here are sure to get the juices flowing and whilst I would agree that insults of a racist or similar kind are a no no, the odd calling of a spade a spade or, more likely on here, calling a pillock exactly that is of little harm. By definition as pensioners we should be old enough and wise enough to realise "sticks and stones...." however as you appear to be "The man" and are in charge then I will abide by your instructions and play by the rules although I can't guarantee that I won't take a well deserved dig at someone when I think you aren't looking

Or you could say as pensioners you should be old enough and wise enough not to indulge in childish namecalling in the first place.

Seriously though, not only is it against the forum rules (which everyone agrees to abide by when they join) but those kind of insults just look ugly on the forum and are a major turn off for new members.
