Labour MPs broke cover last night to call on Ed Miliband to ‘get a grip’ after a series of own goals led to claims that he may not lead his party into the next General Election.

The whispers against him surfaced in public for the first time as he came under fire for his political and personal skills.

Ominously for Mr Miliband, the criticism was led by Graham Stringer, the first Labour MP publicly to call on Gordon Brown to resign when his poll ratings plummeted. Mr Stringer said Mr Miliband must reassert his control over his party – and put a stop to Labour ‘incompetence’.

There is a rumour around the House of Commons of a snap General Election in May
Lib Dems have lost support and Labour in disarray . A chance for the Conservatives to get elected

What do you expect, he was the union backed candidate.  They don't want an independent leader, but someone who is going to toe their line.

I have to admit that after the new leader was elected I went back to being a card-carrying Labour man again in the hope that Ed Miliband might take the party and with it the next TRUE Labour government into power.

Sadly I have also been disappointed by Ed Miliband's performance as he has not done what I expected him to do after replacing Blair and Brown. I know that Ed Miliband IS more centre LEFT than his brother David is and that is why he received more support from the unions than David did. Nevertheless, I do NOT think that he is simply a union mouthpiece or that he was somehow "bought and paid for by the unions" as many more people within the party at large voted him into the leadership than just the unions did.

That said, I think that much more is expected from him in the days, weeks and months to come and I am sure that nobody realises this more than he does.

Let's face  the facts.  Ed Miliband is wet !
A useless communicator with a poor grasp of leadership !
As a conservative supporter I am more than happy that he is the opposition leader  ;D

Trying to be fair....as I am sure you - as a "Conservative supporter" - are not being, I would suggest that he be given more time to show his worth and if he doesn't then maybe his brother - or someone else - SHOULD be given a chance !

You see, unlike you it would seem, my mind is not yet closed about this matter.

I am sure that for the countrys sake and the balance of power we should have a good leader on both sides Government and opposition,.
When is this going to happen?

Hopefully they'll bring in the brains? behind Gordon Brown, i.e. Ed Balls as leader, that should keep them out of power indefinitely.
Why not give the coalition a chance and not close your mind to them?
Better still why not have a snap general election in May with a good chance of getting rid of the Liberal PC brigade and leave Labour in the wilderness they deserve after thirteen years of ruining the economy and our country?
Then we could have a Conservative government again, and they SHOULD be given a chance !
To have a closed mind about the coalition or the Conservatives and to say lets get them out at all costs and wonderful Labour back in is not the answer.

Of course you are right Caminito that David Miliband IS a committed Blairite but if even he was a more charismatic leader and promised not to bring back the worst excesses of Blair I think he could be given a chance if his brother Ed fails to.

I feel that the Labour roots in the backrooms are not going to let more "New-Labour" dogma get inserted into the next manifestation of what Labour is about to bring to us and as long as all of the ersatz Tory policies that Blair - and latterly Brown - hit us with are not brought back I might still hope that a truly new, ( small "n" ), Labour government might rise out of the ashes of the old.

David G....

I am sorry but the coalition have already had the best chance that they could of filling the boots of the failed New-Labour government but they too have failed miserably and that unholy alliance has run out of steam and is not - in any shape or form - in my opinion, going to catch the imagination of the next lot of voters that are waiting in the wings.

Papaumau, they've only been in for five minutes, give them a chance to sort out the THIRTEEN years of Labour profligacy when they didn't have a clue, now they're out of government they appear to have all the answers.
Far too soon to close your mind to the coalition and particularly the Conservatives.

I am Afraid that along with a lot of other people (the silent majority) do not trust any of the present Conservative -Liberal-Labour politicians.
All they are good for is slagging each other off negative Comments nothing positive -ametures with no experience.
If there where a section on the Ballot papers for "Non of the above"
that is where my cross would be.
In these troubled times they should be working together for the good of the country.
I can see them all saying after failure its not our fault its theirs.
God Help us!!!

Ed Miliband was hit by a shock poll yesterday showing that for the first time more voters think Nick Clegg is doing a better job than him.

The YouGov survey found that just 20 per cent of people say Mr Miliband is performing well as Labour leader, while 21 per cent think the same of Mr Clegg as leader of the Liberal Democrats, despite his party’s unpopularity.

By contrast, 44 per cent of people think David Cameron is doing well as Prime Minister.

What is required in Westminster is a Oliver Cromwell empty the place and start all over again, a waste of space the lot of them.

Who are these people who vote in Straw Polls to say how good they think these poloticions are.
If they exist I personally have never met one.
