Lotto winner still paid benefits!!!
« on: February 04, 2012, 04:57:22 PM »
The Sun Newspaper (comic) printed on the front page a story which has really got my blood boiling!!!

It seems that a couple who won over £10 million six years ago are still claiming £500 a month disability benefit, they also get a new car every three years free of charge.

When he was asked about it he said "we are entitled to it so we are getting it!"

Now this really is taking the Peeeeeeeeee

They not only own a home in Nottingham but also a five bedroom mansion in Ireland, but as he says that this house is only a holiday home, he can claim the benefit, had he lived in the Irish home he would have to forego the benefits. >:(

Does make your blood boil Dottie - in the 90s my husband had major spinal surgery, we ran our own family business which we had to give up.  Having always paid our dues tax & NI wise thought he might qualify for DLA or some other benefit, but as you might guess got zilch, altho they did concede to credit NI payments!!

The more we hear the angrier we get! How can antone in their right mind allow this to happen and shame on this couple as they don`t seem to realise that if they decided to forgo their "benefit" then perhaps someone who REALLY deserves help would get some! They have no concience or morality. >:(

Never mind lottery winners or not they will still vote for the idiots who legislated to enable this to happen!

Rita you have hit the nail on  the head they don't have any conscience or morals! What also amazes me is how he got this payment in the first case, I know people who genuinely deserve this payment, who really are in such pain and cannot walk more than five paces without getting out of breath and in terrible pain, who cannot get this payment, yet this man is walking about with the aid of a stick, and is able to fly or drive to his Irish mansion???

Along the same lines, I wonder how many of the so call media and football stars/celebrities, with their mega salaries have been still claiming Child allowance as they see it their right.

The same goes for a 'universal' State Pension of course, which is paid to well endowed members of Society.  Means testing would have to rear its ugly head if non-universal child benefits & State Pension were implemented!

Granny, I would say the state pension is allready means tested, in that if you have been prudent in putting a few pounds away during your working life, rather than spending it on boose, fags, horses, etc, you can not claim the pension top up to the miserly level that the government reckons is the minimum you need to live on.

All those who have paid in to the system are entitled to "universal" benefits.  Maybe some (like child benefit) should not be universal.  However, it's those milking the means tested cow fraudulently that I have problems with.
