You forgot to mention Major, wasn't he carrying on Thatcherism? My word She was such an evil woman, she did ALL that damage all on her own. I don't suppose any of it was a necessity due to the complete shambles both the country and the economy were left in by the previous government led by, Oh! dear Callaghan (labour) who famously made such a mess that he had to go cap in hand to the IMF for a loan to support the pound, but he did steer the country through the winter of discontent (Funny I thought that was Thatchers fault) Mind you I doubt he could have done it had he not had the able assistance of his predecessor Harold, This one had two bites of the cherry and still made a complete mess of it. Admittedly he did have uncle Ted between his two goes at the job, When it comes to Ted Heath I think everyone of all political persuasions will agree that the least said, soonest mended. His only claim to fame is he wore his underpants in the shower so he wouldn't have to look down on the unemployed. But at least when OLD labour were in power you could be sure they were a caring party. Taxing(not pensioners though labour NEVER taxed them), and spending but caring with it the sort of care that would rearrange the deck chairs on the deck of the Titanic. But you can be certain that there were no underlying grass roots problems back then as they only arose when Thatcher came to power
