Treatments for arthritis?
« on: April 02, 2006, 01:50:28 AM »
What is the most effective treatment? Is medication the best solution or are are there any excercises therapies that work?

Does anyone have any experience of herbal remedies?

No experience of herbal remedies - but a High Strength Cod Liver Oil capsule everyday really does work, believe me.  It will take about 3 months for you to feel any benefit though.

I have severe arthritis and I have been told that ginger is a effective way to lessen the pain- still not sure i am ready to give up convential medicine just yet though!. I do try and drink ginger herbal tea during the day but not sure that this has had any effect.

One way in which i cope with my condition is to buy gadgets that make my life easier- these long handled washing sponges are a godsend!

To BethanB,

I've heard that hydrotherapy and other water based exercises can help.

Also, looking at your diet - avoiding food/drink that can have a negative effect. Citrusy things like tomatoes and lemons affect me.

Conventional medicine does help me to control the arthritis but there are so many side effects. Glucosamine, msm, chondroitin supplements can help but sometimes i think that because i’m taking the tablets, i fool myself into thinking they are working.

You've got the right idea regarding gadgets, little things that make such a difference, my potato peeler is great. I’ve got arthritis in my knees and walking up the stairs was a nightmare until my daughter approached a stairlifts company http://www.associatedstairlifts.co.uk and helped me get one installed.

I give my golden retriever cod liver oil tablets 1000mg as well as Omega 3 fish oil 1000mg and glucosamine & Chondroitin when I worked out all the ingredients that were in the ones the vet was prescribing at £80 a go this worked out the same but a fraction of the cost.  He only tends to have them for the winter when summer is approaching he spits them out once the winter approaches he wolfs them down.  Now this is a dog who once ate some of my IBS tablets and never suffered from colic again.  I think animals have a sixth sense as to what is good and bad for them and I think we humans do well to work on self diagnosis and work out what works for us.  I know plenty of milk helps me as I suffer from Osteo Arthritis although you cannot see it it is just as painful.

Try various things for say a month then reflect on made your condition more comfortable

Hi Chris Cod liver oil and omega 3 are more or less the same. I use 1000mg omega 3 capsules
which I buy from tesco's. They have kept my right knee joint free of pain for several years now. I swear by them.

I am having complete saticfaction with my omega 3 so there is no point in me changing. Even if it is much better I would not notice any change but I will keep it in mind.

PS after me telling every one how safe diving with shark is one oceanic white tipped as stopped diving off Sharm red sea. One of these type of shark did kill some one last year.
