Pension, your chance to vote
« on: January 21, 2010, 03:04:44 PM »

I am trying to get as many signatures added to this protest to the government with regards to the lowly state pension offered to the people that built this country and have paid all their lives to a pot that is when paid back insulting to each individual that receives it.

I would ask if you could to send this through yourselves so we can show the government of the day that we will not roll over and die when we reach an age of retirement, as it seems that is what they want us to do.

Please copy and use the link direct to the petition and get as many people you know to sign up, maybe, just maybe with enough signatures by end of July it may make someone sit up and look at the way they treat us.

No petition has ever changed anything (via that method).

BUT there is no doubt that Labour will be looking for the silver vote,
expect promises such as 'pensioner poverty' will be addressed.

They have not bothered for the past 13 years to address it or built
it up to a sensible and reflective amount of tax amounts collected.

It should have been comfortably twice what it is now.

There must be a level reached where it is deemed 'fair and adequate'.

Hi John

Maybe its because it has never pushed so hard before, and people who think it wont work dont vote for it, we can all sit and wonder what if ? But if we did, what then ?

This is entirely individual choice, my choice is to raise my head above the parapet and let people know how I feel, yours is down to you as an individual,  and really should not go to influence others with your thinking.
Vote or dont that ia all I was asking.

Hi

I don't trust this government enough that they are
not using e-petitions for intelligence or even political
purposes.

Obviously they do not have to rely on anything that
is actually true for that intelligence. They are quite
capable of colouring anything up.

I appreciate what you are trying to do and the effort made.
But you are petitioning a government that has had 13
years to improve in real terms on the basic pension.

I realise it will be go to a new government - as long
as it not Brown and his Clowns - I will be happy.

I think that the point Magiceye is trying to push here is that every time a politico sees THAT opinion anywhere they are forced to hold it in memory. The more times that we do as many things as we can to keep this subject to the fore the more the politicos will have to pay attention.

Be certain-sure that every time a strong opinion like this is thrust before the eyes of these so-called "representatives of the people" they give these opnions more and more credence.

If they start to think that a bit of solidarity amongst the "silver surfers" is going to do them good - OR HARM - then they will pay more and more attention to us.

In fact they need to FEAR us and what we can do and the only way to do that is to ensure that they know we are paying attention to what they say and do.

The only thing they appear to fear is not receiving your vote.

They do not fear fraud or fraud like behaviour.

They do not fear claiming a 1p.

They do not fear letting people down or standing up for what they actually believe.

They do not fear stuffing their faces on us, while others starve to pay bills.

I could go on. Even the state pension age keeps moving up and down to
confuse all. If only pensioners could agree and form themselves into something.

The organisations that are there, are either weak or play at it...

Thanks Papaumau,
I really like your style and attitude toward the plight of millions. I have sent this cry out because I do fear for the many that are living longer but in a condition not of their choosing that will the way governments go, get a lot worse.  How can a someone in power say the things they are saying and look this country in the face, they have lied and let down the needy and vunerable and are continuing to do that while supporting those who have the most, and indeed are the greediest, take Bankers. ( Take them to the edge of Hades and push them in )

This world is difficult enough, this country has people that are afraid to turn on their heat, or buy an extra bit of food, while we pour aid and money into countries that have had support for decades, look to your own house and put that in order Mr. Prime Minister, whoever you are.

Dont you wish you knew 25 years ago what you know now, couldn't you upset someone apple cart and have the stamina to see it through.

Thanks MagicEye.... I am sure that there are now many more elderly people that are in a position to steer the politicians to our needs than ever before.

Now....John....

As individuals, politicians always try to see what they can get away with and that is why they do so many things that are totally unacceptable while they are in power. The thing is that when an election is coming up they know only too well that they are going to have to pay for their misdeeds at the ballot box.

The main subject that will make people shift their voting choices will be the expenses scandal but the level of the state pension for the most serious of voters - US - will be right up there when they are looking for votes.

Be sure that in a democracy it is our voting views that are what they fear the most.

Papaumau.

Yes, but the point I was making was that the politicos KNOW that the most regular and consistent voters are the elderly ones and because of this they must be nervous about where we stand at the next GE.

The votes laid by the pensioners will be the most future-shaping votes of all in the up and coming election.

As MagicEye says, we should ensure that we, ( the elderly voters ), keep the pressure on so that they cannot avoid treating us with the respect we are due.

WE can make em or break em and they know it !

That's a sad view of the elderly of this country Ivanhoe !

I would like to think that the great majority of them DO care about what the politicos do in our name.

It is a well known fact that of the numbers of possible voters out there it is the GREY vote that gets out and does their duty. All I am saying is that of the ones that DO vote I hope that they vote for thought-out reasons and not just for family historical reasons.

I HAVE said already here that it is "difficult to teach an old dog new tricks" but I would hope that these "old dogs" are now getting to be a bit more radical in how and where they lay their little crosses.

Hi Shonnalee.....

Sorry, but I don't really understand what you are saying there !

If you are registered to vote you will be able to vote !

There is still time to get registered if you contact your local authority electors roll. It's in the blue book.

You are going to have to be quick though !
