How much ?
« on: February 15, 2010, 05:04:26 PM »
To all site members.  If you believe as I do that the basic State pension at £95.26 is inadaquate.

How much do you think the State pension should be today in 21st century Britain ?

The "powers that be" should remember  that those of us born before the war.
defended this country, rebuilt this country, worked hard all of our lives, paid up to 35%
of our wages in Tax. So that the likes of Blair, Brown, and many other politicians
had a free university education These are the people who are now allowing MPS To rob us Oldans. my Mp claims £1000 a month in expenses for food allowance.
We had to take a packed lunch and a flask.
Pensioners Basic Pension should be at least £200 per week indexed linked to wages.

If you think we are bad off the future looks even grimmer for many. As the retirement age becomes further and further away.

Very easy  we should be paid the same as  the average all public sector workers and MPs pay should be tied to the state pension say: 150% old pension with 50% held back for good conduct.

Certainly the £94/week is totally inadequate in this day and age. Luckily for me, since leaving the submarine service (for which I get no thanks) I worked overseas and was able to top-up the pension and now get the princely sum of around £130/week with which I still have to be VERY careful. Again, luckily for me, I married a wonderful girl "slightly younger" than me and she teaches and keeps us both in the manner to which we have become accustomed! ;D ;D ;D
