Who are the Worse Drivers?
« on: February 27, 2010, 04:33:32 PM »
Driving is not a measure of intelligence, nor is great ability required.

It is learned ability. There are good drivers and there are bad drivers.

These come from all age and sections of Society.

What is needed more then anything to drive within the law is discipline.

As many young people have no idea of this concept. They are normally
the majority section who have and cause accidents.

I think it's a skill that gets better as you do more of it, like reading and writing, it takes time to learn, then you refine it as you do more and more.

Don't really think it's a case of better or worse, just levels of experience.

In my view the worsed and most dangerous drivers on the road are sales reps in their fast company cars. They think they own the road, they cut you up or drive very close to your rear frightening elderly drivers.

People who drive for a living are often working to tight time constraints, and consequently get impatient with those who do less mileage.

Not just sales reps, but Field Service personnel, Truckers, and who can forget the ever-present White Van Man?

Add those to the young folk with no sense of their own mortality, and it's a whole devil's brew.

Why are we repeating this post? It is exactly the same as the recent one "should old people be allowed to drive", just under a different heading.

Tollerance AND experience makes a good driver hence older drivers are usually better than younger ones. Yes they sometimes drive more slowly but that is because they know their abilities and drive within them.

I don't know why but yes, white vans seem to attract bad drivers for some reason and yes, people driving for a living with tight schedules lack tollerance so they tend to be bad drivers even though they have the experience.

My ole Irish gran used to say....."There but for the grace of God and the skill of the OTHER driver go I !"

She was a wise ole wumman my ole Irish gran !

I don't try to stereotype ANY particular class of driver as there are good and bad drivers of all ages !

I WILL state that some of the younger ones often think that they are invulnerable when they get behind the wheel of a car.

My pet hates are people who do not use their indicators, ( especially when they are exiting a roundabout ) and people who tailgaite !

Of course I never do any of those things ! 8)

If we had stuck to the title of the post we should have had two very different posts going on. But like all posts we do tend to wander away from the subject and ending up with two very similar post.

If "Chris" had been "on the ball" these two posts could easily have been combined into one....BUT...it appears that he is just not paying attention !
