INDUSTRIAL STRIFE !

Almost all industrial strife is caused by employers not looking after their employees in their understandable desire to maintain the bottom line.

Profits and good industrial relations are just incompatible with each other and everybody concerned knows this.

The more sentient of the employers know that if they use good negotiation techniques they can get a lot out of their workers and since Thatcher destroyed the strength of the unions there is now no reason for saying that they are power-mad any more.

It is when dictatorial bosses try to IMPOSE new rules and regulations that diminish the employment terms and conditions of their employees that these employees feel the need for industrial action.

NOBODY WANTS industrial action or strikes as the people who vote for such action know that they are always going to suffer as a result.

The action of withdrawing ones labour is NEVER an action that is taken lightly as all who do it know that every minute they are on strike is going to mean money lost.

With this in mind it has to be reasonable to suggest that whenever a correctly balloted group of workers vote for strike they must be at the end of their tether to do so.

Thanks Ivanhoe !

I only hope that the others here have read that and taken it in even if they don't agree with it.

I have to admit to a certain bias towards the working classes - at ALL levels - as it is they that are the weaklings here now after Thatcher destroyed the power-base of the militant unions.

As things stand these days it takes a heluva lot to do to get to take workers out on strike as those workers almost all have mortgages and families and debts to service. When workers had nowt, they had little to lose but now that they have reasonable standards of living they have a lot to lose and are much less likely to be militant during industrial problems.

For them to STRIKE is a very serious decision to make and such decisions are never taken lightly any more.
