Papaumau, We get what we deserve.
We British have had our noses in the exploitive free-market since the 80's one way or another, why should our politicians be any different ?
The British people have not seen the greed in house buying since the 80's, pushing up house prices making them out of reach of our low waged youngsters. Also guzzumping here in England is rife.
Re- State pensions, the British under pensionable aged group have stood by while their parents and grandparents have been forced to succumb to the means test for extra cash if they can't afford to live on the basic State pension, after this humiliation many get turned down.
People who bought share in the Utilies in the 80's watch their own profits popping through their letter boxes, and how many care about the poor who struggle to pay these obscene privatisation charges ?
And now with British Airways workers striking, all ive heard on the news is from holier than now passengers worried about their trips, while B.A. workers are basically coming up against Thatcher's exploitative and competitive free - market system that runs down wages and creates redundancies ?.
Britain is a devided country, we are also largely politically thick/naive. And the political parties as you say, prey on this.
