If we were to lay your instinctive hatred for anything Socialist, ( or social ), we may be able to see that the whole idea behind middle-of-the-road Socialism is for the people at the bottom to get a fair crack of the whip from the privileged rest.

I cannot imagine why anybody who comes from THAT strata would want to support any right-wing philosophy when one considers that the right-wing thoughts are firmly set in elitism, privilege and protection for the rich.

Please do not confuse Socialism with Communism as they are NOT the same. Because of human nature Communism does not work and it has already failed in the Soviet bloc and it is just waiting to fail in China and North Korea and other true Communist regimes.

I find it amazing how some people - including the New-Labour camp - always connect Socialism with Marxism or Leninism or even  - God help us - Stalinism or Maoism - when basic Socialism is there just to help the working population of any country to get what they are due.

I will admit that the word "Socialism" has been used and abused by many groups in the past, ( typically, the Nazis ), so that they might appeal to the masses, but if we can see past these obvious flaws we will be able to see that true Socialism does not in fact carry any of these negative factors.

Papaumau, an example of what I am against: Look at the Kinnocks creamed the top jobs for themselves, again the Blairs in what way do their rewards for ruining our economy help those at the lowest end of society? they did not create businesses from scratch or do anything for their fellows. I'm alright Jack and the same applies to all those so called socialists. As for communism being dead -  its still kicking us in the teeth  - forgotten clause four  ? If it was not for communism we would not need nuclear deterrents and the money could equip our traditional troops properly and who knows we might just pay reasonable pensions.

While I DO see what you are getting at Avalonmpk, I think that we can NOT stereotype any political or social framework just because there are a few flies in the ointment.

I already mentioned that human nature caused Communism to fail in the Soviet East and sadly there are also greedy and selfish individuals in even the most innocuous of regimes.

We must not throw the baby out with the bathwater when we are trying to decide which political path suits us best.

We have to make allowances for human nature in ALL political persuasions - ESPECIALLY the  selfish Tory one.
