Chafer Lawn Beetle
« on: July 07, 2010, 11:07:06 AM »
Good morning all I wonder how many of you have been troubled with this little beauty. Due to lack of rain my garden and lawns are looking rather worse for ware the once green grass is looking rather yellow it will recover with a good dose of rain but not if the chafer grubs have had a god feast on the grass roots. The lawns can be treated against this pest but the timing must be right and it cost a round £20 give or take depending on the size of the lawn. They arrived in the Mansfield area in the last couple of years and done an immense amount of damage. I spotted them before they burrowed into my rear lawn and I managed to kill around 700 of them. Have to wait and see now how much damage the ones I missed have done. I may be growing a lot more potatoes next year ;D

I was told that it does not kill the bug but iron sulphate turns the grass a bluish green and makes the roots unpalatable to the little horror 3 treatments at approx half an ounce per square yard in March April and May 3 treatments in all this was told to me by a retired Parks Superintendant
