Hi jk
Where about are you thinking of going to across the pond. Been to the USA a few times when I was in the RN but never thought about going for an holiday. But I do fancy Canada in the next year or two. My next main holiday next year is 3 weeks near Durban South Africa. A really nice country and cost of living quite inexpensive.

Hi Hugh,

Going into New York via sea using MSC.  We will spend 15 days on a cruise with a termination in New York.  We plan to spend 4 or 5 days before flying back to the UK.

Visiting US is a real treat since no one can tell you what it is like, you must do it yourself.  We have spent a holiday driving from Denver up to Wyoming, via Utah and Arizona, and back over a 2 week period.  Denver is a lovely city and Colorado is really nice.  Each of the US states have a different look, feel, and experience.

We have also spent a month in Florida using a villa outside of Disney.  We did it in February so that we got away from the cold in UK.  Our family came over for 2 weeks and went to Disney.  Children loved it.

A different experience awaits anyone who is interested in visiting the Southern states.  We spent a week in New Mexico and found it a very interesting state.  We did this in October so the creepy crawleys were hibernating, well that is what our hosts told us.

We have found the cost of visiting (eg: rental car, accommodation, and meals) quite reasonable.  We adopted the approach on our car trips of staying at Motels that you find in every town.  Starting to check on availability and cost around 5pm gives you a good couple of hours to strike a deal.  We found that it was actually possible to negotiate a room price the closer you got to 6pm.  They normally provide a light breakfast of coffee/tea, roll and toast in price.

Regards,

John

Hi John
My wife just won't go to USA and I really don't know why. I have been many times in my navy days along the east coast. We were in New York for one week cannot say I would ever go back, but I don't enjoy cities period. The view from the top of the Trade Towers was some thing special looking down on the Empire state building and the rest of the surrounding areas.
I would have enjoyed touring in land but must keep my wife happy and there are other countries to see and enjoy.
For our first week in South Africa we are spending in Winterton 50 miles inland from Durban on the edge of a National park. Then we have two weeks North of Durban at Shelly beach where I scuba dive on protea banks. The afternoons are free to do what ever Yvonne wants. Diving with sharks for the first time was some thing really exciting and special and I can't wait to get back in with them again.
                                                 Cheers Hugh

Hi Hugh,

Now that is what I call excitement - swimming with sharks.  I have heard of swimming with dolphins, BUT sharks???

I hope you both have a great holiday in South Africa.

John

Hi John
Diving with these very beautiful animals is really some thing very special. After being brain washed into believing they are dangerous to humans which is so untrue. If you go oto face book  look me up Hugh Hards my profile pics me with a sand tiger shark. I have posted  pic which were taken during my stay.
                                 Cheers Hugh
