Avalon.......

Sadly, you are living in cloud-cuckoo-land if you think that Tory governments of the past have not taxed us to the hilt so that they can spend heavily on their particular favourite and pet projects.

It is a misnomer and a chronic unfairness that some people get into the idea that Labour are the only party of government that taxes to spend.

ALL governments "tax-to-spend" as that is how government works: All we should be discussing here is how and where this money is spent.

Basically, I think none of us want to think of getting old until it's staring us in the face.

While we are young we want to enjoy ourselves, when we have families we want the government to do what's good for families.

Only when we get old and are faced with the stark realities of failing health and age related problems, do we think about how we are going to face our futures with reuced incomes.

Not all of us had the access to private pension schemes, some of us, bringing up children alone due to widowhood, could not afford a private pension, or to save.

It's not possible IMO, to generalise on these matters.

Cheers, HG

HG....that is why I spend so much time fighting for the weak and the poor and the sick and the old, as sadly most recent governments of the past have not been driven to help the people that are in that section of society. They are more liable to pay attention to the rich and the powerful and the influential ones that can help them with their political ambitions.

It is for this reason that I am staggered that so many people on and off websites like this one are unable to stop thinking about themselves for a second and are willing start thinking about the ones that REALLY need our support.

Surely we can't ALL be that selfish !

Papaumau,  Well said, a superb posting.  I could not agree more.

I believe it was John F. Kennedy who said, "If a rich country, cannot help the poor, it cannot save the rich".  Please correct me if im wrong..

This site and others like it, have a core hard boiled, apathetic, unseeing, and grossly pathetic section of people on them, who would'nt recognise political and social inustice if they sat on it.  They are literally blind to all that is around them.

I feel very strongly that the only way such people will ever learn, is for them to suffer themselves the very same hardships.
