Different subject yes however this country already practices euthanasia look at how many elderly people die soon after having a morphine injection through 'breathing' problems.  I personally have always felt Switzerland will be my choice.

Euthanasia is a very emotive subject and a very personal one so I do not wish this to become a 'live' debate but just think about the government making it legal (which I think they will) it will cull the elderly and make a huge difference to the number of elderly in this country, therefore making a huge saving in benefits paid.

I can see that any government would LOVE to introduce euthanasia to Britain as if they did they would save a fortune in NHS costs and pension payments. Sadly the religions STILL influence governments very powerfully in this respect and I cannot see any government committing suicide by introducing what would be branded as "mercy killing" laws.

The Nazis, ( sorry for bringing THEM up ), practiced euthanasia in the last years of the war and by this act they have hardened this subject right out of the "sensible discussion" realms.

The best and easiest way to bring this in would be via something like the Scottish private member's bill that is at present being put through the Scottish parliament. It asks for "End of Life Choices" and appeals to the instinct to relieve suffering and to impart dignity in dying.

This bill has a way to go yet !

For your and everyone's information, here is this Margo MacDonald's End of Life Choices Bill.

This is in .PDF format, so you will all need a copy of Acrobat Reader resident on your machine in order to view it.
Regards....
