Yes Papa I can also remember history when labour opened the flood gates and allowed thousands of immigrants from the West Indies unchecked to fill jobs. I also remember Labour being run by the Unions, those were the good old days of old labour. The reason Margaret Thatcher had to take on the unions and destroy them. Well done her. Yes the Tory party got rid of Margaret,  shame on them, and we the people got rid of them. Which allowed in Blair for 13 years. to destroy our welfare state and take us into two wars with a lie.
Cameron is doing is best to sort out the mess we are in, he will make mistakes and it will depend on how well they get sorted if he keep his job in 4 years.

I am going to talk to Christine and Caminito in private to see they want to move on and leave you and Ivanhoe to hold hands. Ivanhoe with his cynical remarks and you trying to be so superior to every one make me sick.

Ivanhoe ,,,,what a sad case you are  :(

When people throw the toys out of the pram the resulting outburst usually says more about the author of the outburst than the person(s) it's about

As I have said before to that suggestion: Yes, Thatcher DID look after the services and the police as EVERY politician that does stuff against the pale expects the people to rise up or go on general strike. With the army and the police in her back pocket she knew that she would always have a power-base that would do what she told them to do without question

Yes Margaret did look after the forces pay and other Prime Ministers should do the same. Which ever party is in power the forces had to do as they were told. We had no union to fight our corner. Labour used us as pawns  not giving us a pay rise so they could give the coal field workers a pay rise in double figures and then brag they kept average pay rises down to 6%. Labour party quite happy to send our forces to war.
Labour party were in the back pockets of the unions and did what they were told. Thank goodness the old Labour party is dead and buried

One million homeless take away people who spent their money on booze drugs & fags. runaways, illegal immigrants how many home less, would be left.

There is also the problem created by labour, giving young signal girls who have a baby a place at the top of the housing list. Thousands of young girls now have a baby for this reason and now live on welfare. A very kind idea in the first place but now abused in a big way.

Just one more foolish comment for others laugh at Ivanhoe.  :) :) :)                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                           There are hundreds of young married working couples waiting for an home before starting a family, but for ever being pushed down the housing list by young girls jumping the queue by having a baby and having a life on the welfare, to them it is a serious thrustrating matter, and you have the cheek to mock some one who supports them.

Yes Hugh, but I think that you are missing my whole point:

If we deliberately only remember the good ole days as these are the days that we want to remember and/or we deliberately remember only the bad ole days just to suit our pointed argument, the whole debate becomes at risk of getting lop-sided and inaccurate.

In such discussions I always try like a bear to remember BOTH sides of the argument so that nobody can then indict ME as being myopic, ( Caminito ? ).

One line put-downs might be good for a sound-bite but they serve nothing as far as true debate is concerned.
Regards....

Papaumau.

I look at your posts and just wonder what the bloody hell you are on about. and what point you are trying to make. You and Ivanhoe (the king of one liners) are for ever quoting history and telling me how great old labour were and how evil Margaret Thatcher was. Because you pair are one sided I take the opposite view to create a debate. So Ivanhoe turns really nasty with many very rude remarks. Which you have seen and said nothing about. I 100% agree with Caminito one liner
just to make sure he knows he is not on his own.

Ask your self why this forum and your own Rip off Britain as not swelled in numbers?

Because people just dont like the truth.

And the truth is the right wingsm since the 80's and Thatcher, have turned Britain into an uncaring and decadent nation.

It is also time you came to understand this is a pensioners forum where pensioners would like to make friends and discuss every day problems.

It should be now quite clear to you they don't want to hear your views on Margaret Thatcher and right wing politics. For those who do why not tell members about your slot on u tube which I believe you have.

It is time we welcomed new comers and not drive them away with history lessons in politics which to many is a very boring subject.

Any politic discussions in my view only, should be limited to the party now in power.

On a slightly different and informative note.

I have often wondered how many pensioners in this country are Thatcher voters, simply because their parents were Tory voters, but that they have no idea why their State pension is so low, ie because Thatcher broke the  State pensions link with earnings in 1980.

This is a debating site, we are in a country where free speech is heralded.

Im always honest about things political "that I know", I dont hide behing falsehoods, lies, and / or myths.

If people dont like it, they know what they can do.

Yes I agree this is a debating sight but I would like to get more members in to make debates more  interesting. We can not carry on the way we are with so few members.

That is a very difficult question to answer Hugh !

As far as I see it most of the people who frequent the annals of the internet these days like to do it superficially. That is why the MySpace, Twitter and Facebook phenomenons are so rife.

Wherever we find REAL forums discussing REAL everyday subjects, ( and especially consumerism ), we also find that most people surfing around just do not have the patience or the inclination to get into proper and thoughtful debate. They see these talking-places, their eyes glaze over immediately and they move on to some other kind of soap.

Then again, of course, there are people who might LIKE to take part in such debates, but they and we know that they just do not have the tools in their minds to be able to do it successfully.

( You may or may not have noticed that I have avoided getting caught up in a personality clash with you over this subject Hugh ! ).

NOW.... as my old Irish grannie used to say: "Back to the motley!"
