I have recently returned to vynil and yesterday treated myself to a new record player to replace one which my daughter bought me two years ago and has given up the ghost so to speak. It cost me the princely sum of £20 but I have an expensive pair of Sony headphones and with these the reproduction is quite acceptable. My younger daughter has, of late, bought a gadget though shaped like a Heinz Beans Tin which somehow you couple up through your computer for the sum of £50. With this she has conversations with some faceless entity called "Duggie" or someone which is all quite astounding. She says nonsense like "I love you Duggie!" and he returns "I love you too, thankyou for the compliment!" Following this she said "Play us something with Frank Sinatra!" and he was quick to oblige. You can play just about any recording of anything! Modern technology literally stuns me. I still fail to understand how they get so many folk into that wee box which is a TV set? I wrote to the Beeb about this and they did not even have the courtesy to reply to my letter.
