Gosh ..do I miss the spanish food  8)

My wife just reminded me , when we came off the beach feeling hungry we used have a cold beer and tapas.
Lightly toasted bread , a layer of good spanish ham covered in olive oil , lemon juice and a little lemon zest .
Wonderful

So make it! We've lived most of our lives in the ME and I learned to cook our favourite meals and so we can enjoy them here!
This post is my opinion, which you may not like, but I'm entitled to it.

I do ! My Paella de Marisco is great.
What I miss is every bar has some wonderful little dishes to enjoy with a drink !
It's not quite the same here with the rain pouring down outside. Much better to sit on the terrace !
Also some of the ingredients are difficult to find .
One of my favourites is Octopus tentacles  simmered slowly in beer . Then cut into one inch slices.
Another was baby octopus and broadbead salad !
Tesco's and Asda are sadly lacking in stocking the requirements  ;D

You can get frozen octopus in the larger ASDA stores not quite the same but passable  ;D

I love Paella but the last one I had was in Barcelona which was disappointing.

I have a great paella pan but it does not fit in any ovens here so I can only use it in the summer when I am cooking outside ;D

Haven't tried the rat paella yet . Maybe one day  ::)

Marsh rat was one of the main ingredients of early paellas, along with eel and butter beans. Novelist Vicente Blasco Ibáñez described the Valencian custom of eating marsh rats in Cañas y barro, a realist account about life among the fishermen peasants near lake Albufera.

One has to ask, with all this longing, and how great life was out there, why did you come back?

I had to have two operations , one in Spain and one when I got back to the UK. Am OK now !
Also I saw that property prices were about to crash in Spain , so now was the time to return . Managed to sell quickly and got a good price.
I know some Brits who waited and are now stuck ,with no buyers and low prices !
Always intended to return to the UK sometime , missing family ,  but illness brought the decision forward !
We had a great life out there and I do miss the relaxed lifestytle , though the bureaucracy drove me mad !
