Swansea at war
« on: Aug 03, 2017, 11:22:12 PM »
Has anyone read my book, swansea at war. It is a tribute to the people who kept the township going during the blitz.

I lived for eighteen months during the war in Minehead, Somerset,  just about opposite Swansea on the Bristol channel.  When there were distant bumps and bangs and the drone of aero engines, folk used to say poor Swansea is getting it!

Little bit of free advertising me thinks ;)
This post is my opinion, which you may not like, but I'm entitled to it.

Tried to get a nights kip there with two other Irks at a B&B when stationed at RAF St Athen, turned away by a not very friendly landlady, not very impressed, so never visited there again,

Don't know about the war era but I lived and worked there in the mid to late 70's.
My impression of the place at the time was that good old Adolf didn't do a good enough job - parts of the place were pretty well run down.

For a part time evening job at that time I used to play in a resident cabaret band at the Townsman night club.

I think that is a bit cruel Goingtoseed.  Having never, fortunately as yet, been bombed I have little inkling what it is like in reality.  I do remember the feeling of fear and apprehension though, when we spent time during the war in the communal street shelter.  Many years ago, a work colleague described to me how he was buried under the rubble for two fearful days at the Southampton GPO during the blitz.  Let's hope such things never happen ever again.

No need for advertising. Already on amazon. I agree that many visitors to Wales were made to feel unwelcome then so was I much to their loss I would say as i married and Englishman. Anyway, no offence taken Just thought book would be of interest because of war. I wouldn't buy it either.

How sad..and well done you Salbee for the writing and research necessary for such a project...Whatever you think of it. (For what it's worth, I think you're fibbing.) ;)

Nah. Each of us is entitled to our own opinion. We should.never be scared to speak up. If you write a book, you expect different reactions. Just like actors.

A fair point but what're the chances that the folk on here might be interested in a book about Swansea? Fairly slim, I might suggest, so the feedback would be useless as a tool for boosting ego anyway. You might still consider joining in the conversations on the rest of the site...We need all the opinions we can get!

Where's Swansea?
