Steer clear of motorway service stations,
« on: Aug 21, 2017, 08:37:15 PM »

http://www.msn.com/en-gb/cars/ownership/why-you-should-always-steer-clear-of-motorway-service-stations-on-a-long-car-trip/ar-AAqjorO?li=AAmiR2Z&ocid=spartandhp

Being poor our cars has to run on cheaper petrol and we mainly use Asda.
What amazes me at New Oscott the Tesco petrol station which is 4p a litre cheaper than the BP opposite is often empty and the BP garage is full.
A lot of people in Sutton Coldfield must have money to burn.
I must say a man with a 17 reg Audi A7 had some common sense.
He fills his car at Asda and sometimes Tesco.

A lot of people have company cars. Some of those have accounts with garage franchises. In the days when I had a company car  I used the chain that had the best giveaways although I think those days have gone now.

Fuel prices vary across the country too. In the summer I always top up in Norfolk as it's 3p a litre cheaper than at home.

I'd never top up in motorway services as they are often vastly more expensive. At 10p a litre dearer which isn't uncommon that's £5 more on an average top up for me.

Brian,
Good point again...
Audi drivers do have Common Sense.

Lots of Audi drivers are fine I'm sure but the smaller, older, sportier versions now seem to attract the same sort of idiot drivers that used to be a plague in their BMWs.
I'd be amazed if most motorists didn't know that service stations are a rip-off in every way. On the other hand, they're there and open 24 hrs a day..Staff have to be paid whether they're busy or not, the rent can't be cheap etc..Perhaps we should appreciate them a bit more. At night, in the early hours, they're oases if you've been on the road for a few hours and still have more hours ahead.

I always make sure my car is full of petrol before going for a long journey on the motorway. Andy being a Scottish dog also does that as well.

Brian,
Andy drivers and Audi drivers, both have a sufficiency of Common Sense then, Brian.

You really are confused Brian! For years you throw your wealth in our faces, all your pensions and how clever you've been, and now, out of nowhere, you say you're poor. So which is it ???

But yes, ALL motorway service stations rip you off as they know you have no choice. If you're stupid enough to embark on a motorway journey without a full tank of "cheap" petrol, serves you right!!

I went in for fuel once on the way to work (Frankly), but only because I was running on fumes and desperate, I put a tenner in and filled up later, there was an Asda one off the M5 at the Dudley Jnc but it takes longer there due to traffic lights on island,

I never go in for food or drink either, if you plan the journey there are usually other options, like the pub just off jnc 25 on the M5 (tea & coffee are an option) at the Taunton turn on the A358 South, as easy to get to as most services.

41,
What, do we not?
only if you are a taxi. For them usually the correct lane is the quickest lane.

My son has an Audi and he says absolutely nobody ever lets him out.

Audi drivers, like BMW have a BAD reputation! Drive down any motorway and see what cars overtake all others! There just seems to be something about their owners that make them have to go faster than everybody else.
