Untaxed Vehicles.
« on: Oct 06, 2017, 05:25:27 PM »
I was shocked today to notice about 20 clamped untaxed vehicles in Sutton Coldfield. Most of them were about 10+ years old.
i walked past one and it was parked in front of a drive. The clamped car did not belong to the house and the house owner was annoyed as he wanted to get his car out to take somebody to hospital.
Surely that untaxed car should have been towed away at the expense of the owner of the untaxed vehicle.
Another point. Some of the cars were parked in 1 hour zones and ran over time because they were clamped.
Surely a parking ticket should have been issued as well to bring revenue to the council.

How do you know they were untaxed?

There is a website that will tell you if a vehicle is taxed. You would not need to use it if there was a notice to that effect on the vehicle.

Usually if a vehicle is clamped there is a penalty notice attached that can only legally be opened by the owner. I know you can look up vehicle tax status online - I posted the URL in an earlier Brain "untaxed vehicle" thread. I just wondered if Brian had used it on his phone 20 times to check what was going on.

Hmmm...

Welcome back Brian I have really missed your contributions and every one is always so different and interesting - not like some people on this forum who just go on and on and on and on about the same subject !!!

The clamps had DVLA on them and make sure your vehicle is taxed.
20 vehicles is a guess as they were in different streets.

My one daughter came early in Liverpool. She is tarnished with a Liverpool birth certificate.

I once saw several cars get clamped, a couple get towed away & several people prosecuted for fraudulent use of a disabled badge & all in the space of an hour.

Well less than an hour if you don't count the adverts.

I'm guessing that was a recent program Phil or on one of the channels with endless repeats.

It seems that the DVLA do operate clamping vans. IMO scrapping the tax disk was a mistake. Traffic wardens could see at a glance if a vehicle was taxed before.

I must have been watching a repeat as I thought it was odd that I'd seen the DVLA clamp the same car 10 times before.
