nuclear bombers on USA plains

Spain still has remains of  put B-52 nuclear bombers  on USA plains and they are still promising to clean up.

90% of B52's have been decommissioned.  Those remaining will be airframes manufactured as late as 1963 ( 54 years old).  Whilst a significant achievement there have been massive  avionic upgrades, so dynamically almost unrecognisable from the original airframes.  It should be remembered that life (in peacetime anyway) is far kinder to military jets than civilian aircraft which may be required to operate virtually 24 hours per day for years until they are literally worn out.  There is obviously still a strategic need for a subsonic heavy bomber and provided the airframe holds together, proven technology will beat the new, flashy stuff.
