Morse
« on: Jun 20, 2018, 01:24:44 AM »
I was living out of the country when 'Morse' became popular so I missed most of it but having enjoyed 'Lewis' and 'Endeavour', I looked up and downloaded the original few series of it. Only to be quite disappointed really. By today's standards he was a rude, patronising, intolerant, womanising sexist lech who drank his way through his cases but was tolerated because he solved murders.
Hindsight's a wonderful thing but I'm not sure I'd've enjoyed it that much even then. Quite enjoyed revisiting the 80's fashions though. ;D

Compared to some of todays crap programmes, Morse was brilliant, I still enjoy the repeats,

That's not the cultured, classical music lover, Morse that I watched.

It was, however, how Jack Regan in the Sweeney, appeared.

I loved the way in which Morse was so wonderfully pedantic....

Detective Sergeant Lewis: Death would have been instant, would it not?

Chief Inspector Morse: [Annoyed] "Occurred instantaneously", Lewis, or "was instantaneous" if you must. Coffee may be instant, death may not.

There is too much "sloppy" speech these days.
You'll have had your tea.

I nearly typed 'absolutely' - but I will settle for saying I totally agree!

In that case I'm glad I never saw it.

The Sweeney is still running on one of the Freesat channels or at least was some time ago when I was hunting through the program guide looking for something to watch. I enjoyed it in its day but revisiting it wasn't very satisfying. One saving grace was that the police didn't always win which made a change.

I have every episode of Morse downloaded on a hard drive but haven't got around to watching any yet. I grabbed them because I enjoyed Lewis. Endevour is OKish but I preferred Lewis.

The Sweeney was in the good old days of Judges Rules before PACE was introduced.

I've always had a vague idea that PACE meant something like 'Permit All Criminals (to) Escape.

It may as well have done with the politically correct introduction of custody suites & prisoner welfare officers.

I'll be interested in your opinion when you've watched some FO.

Not sure when that is likely to be as they are at home. I'll copy one over to my laptop next time I go and take a look - I'll put a link for this thread in my note to myself reminding me to do that.

I can easily understand it having watched a few early ones Raven. It hasn't aged well and the character is very much of it's time.
