Thames Water having a laugh

They haven't installed a water meter and I don't think I want one.

We have a water meter in our new-build house.

We're with Anglian Water for our supply & Severn Trent for sewerage but Anglian Water bill us for both.

Our combined bill for the year 22nd Dec 2016 to 20th Dec 2017 was £256.86p & the estimate for year ending Dec 2018 is £289 with a Direct Debit of £26 per month.

Our rental property has the old water rates & the charge was £45 per month back in 2014.

They must think I am running a hydro electric power station.

400 gallons  a day! There's only two of us and we haven't even got a meter.

I don't think I should have to talk to them. But probably will have to, like the time London Electricity sent me a bill for over 2 MWh. in one quarter.

Water Meters would stop users pouring gallons of water onto lawns to keep the grass green. Grass is very hardy and will grow again when rain arrives. Washing up water should be used to water hanging basket to keep them looking bright.

I agree Hugh. More people than rooms, a water meter can be expensive. Fewer people than rooms, it should be cheaper.

We have one, our annual bill isn't much more than Phils. I have a water butt, sadly empty at the moment, and use washing up water as you say. I never water grass!
Just because you’re offended doesn’t mean you’re right.

I have explained (or tried to) to my wife that we do not water grass except newly seeded. Water only makes it grow and therefore need cutting and makes it more difficult to cut. So we do not water it.

I finally had a conversation with someone at Thames Water and thay said they had installed a water meter somewhere in the street. I think they may be metering all the water for the whole town including the olympic size swimming pool. They are going to send someone round to see what I am doing with it.

There are some poor unfortunate folk in Doncaster that would laugh at saving water.  Here in wet Wales it hasn't stopped chucking down in buckets for a couple of weeks.  Here at least the weather seems to even itself out, dry spring early summer followed by rain rain and more rain.

When I lived in Devon, you needed a mortgage to pay South West Water bills, Welsh Water are much cheaper and better.  I am on a water rate, it may cost me more but I know what I'm paying each month which is important to me.

There does seem to be a considerable difference between water charges, or should we say prices?, between different water boards.

Those on water meters normally seem to pay a fraction of what those who aren’t .
My thought has always been what would happen if everyone was on a water meter , would the price still be lower or would they have us all by the short and cur-lies and hike the price right up for everyone .

Our water bill dropped quite a lot after we had a water meter installed.  There are two of us in a three bedroom house.
