Milk added first or last.?
« on: Aug 15, 2018, 06:30:22 PM »

My granddaughter  called out to me that she had made me a pot of tea.
I usually make my tea in teapot and drink from a cup and saucer.
On the kitchen table she had placed a pot of tea and a cup and saucer.
I sat down to enjoy a cup of tea .. “Where is the milk please Amy”?
“In the teapot.” She replied.  :o

Do you put the milk in first or add it last?
Everything will be alright in the end, and if it’s not alright, its not the end.

;D ;D  That's the way it came in our house when I was a kid. In fact, if I'm not mistaken the sugar went in too.
According to talking-head experts, milk should be added lest you scald the milk by pouring boiling tea on it. Might've had a  point when milk was just milk but I don't believe it makes any difference these days. Anyroad, most people use a mug and a teabag don't they?.

Surely the tea wouldn't mash/brew properly if there was cold milk in the cup? I don't drink it but I can make it.

I've never come across anyone who uses a teabag (as do I) and puts the milk in first. OTOH, I've known quite a few folk who use a teapot and put milk in the cup before the tea. One of the reasons for putting milk in first, as I understand it, is that if you are using really delicate bone china (how many folk do in this day and age?) there is a danger of boiling tea cracking the cup - and I have known quite a substantial mug develop a crack when used for black coffee.

My daughter puts milk in a mug first! Watery and weak is how she likes tea.  Milk in the cup first if teas from a pot, milk in last if it's made in a mug.

I seldom drink tea, but if I do then it has to be strong, so I steep the T.Bag in the boiling water then add milk after I remove it from the mug.
