Not sure why you'd think that. It's not a Tin Pan Alley song. Foster died in the 1860s, think it was published just after his death.

Thanks - I had no idea 'Beautiful Dreamer' was that old - I can only bring Crosby's version to instant mind, hence my - mistaken - assumption.

When I said 'popularised' I meant before recording and broadcasting. Christy's Minstrels sang his songs all over the south and midwest and sold the sheet music as they went..

I imagine so..'specially for the classics.

For the classics yes - I imagine sheet music for the Moonlight Sonata, Beethoven's 5th, etc., will always have a market is serious music shops (if there are any left) - I was thinking of today's equivalent of 'Beautiful Dreamer' whatever that might be, or simply whatever is 'top of the pops' at the moment..

i dont think it fair trying to compare that music with this..
i really liked the Beatles, and love a lot of their music
was never a Jackson fan
and todays music...lol.. we cant compare... but my grandmother [who sang in Carnegie Hall, but i cant remember if it was New York or Chicago} but she used to entertain us doing those dances from the twenties [decadence] the police almost arrested her for smoking while waiting for a tram in Hamilton, they made he put it out...lol... can you even imagine, almost a full circle...
but your music might be ambrosia to some an poison to others... i downloaded some crooners and was amazed at who was singing... the last one was Jimmy Durante...lol.. the lost chord man, now thats gotta ring some bells..
