It's the winter fuel allowance that tickles me.

What about the Christmas bonus?  Now that is a joke.  £10 since the year it was introduced.  Just about enough for a reasonable bottle of wine now.

Lucky, as I only get £124.39p which is only £11.78p more than half of what you get.

I don't recall the exact amount - about £130 I think but I do recall that for some strange reason my wife gets 6p more than me and she had less stamps. I think they calculate your pension by pulling the numbers out of a hat. If there is some formula it must be a state secret to avoid appeals.

Yes! I guess so....

Why pensions should vary so much, puzzles me.

I paid the married man's stamp, from decimalisation day, when Christine "retired". Opting, in/ out to serps etc, as instructed, over the years.

She now receives £75. Our weekly total is £313.  :)

If you opt out from Serps you had money paid into a private scheme which would supposedly pay more than the state additional pension.  I expect the biggest beneficiaries of opting out were the pension advisers. I opted out because I was advised to. My wife worked for my Ltd company and didn't get paid enough to pay more than minimal NI (it was mostly a way of using her otherwise unused personal allowance).

Actually I just checked and we both get something above basic state pension although why is a mystery. It shows as Post 97 additional State pension.
Me £149.78
Wife £150.27

When I got married at 19  8) I paid a married woman's stamp because like most young couples, money was tight.  I had no idea what that would mean for my pension and tbh who thought about pensions at that age !

SERPS are included I believe,  it is a bit like a lucky dip isn't it. What price a job in the Pensions departments ???

You probably get less if you were assessed on a rainy Monday morning.

Alex,
That is something my wife talks about a lot - she claims, with some justification, it was a form of mis-selling by the State.  The same applies to company pension schemes; people on part-time (generally women) weren't allowed to join the schemes, until recent times.  And finally, it is about 55 years old when you really start thinking about pensions, an age when it is a bit late, but there you go.

I don't get mine for another 2 years, and although I have paid everything that was due from 1970 to 2015 (early retirement) I will still be about £15 a week short of the full pension (at current estimate) or I can pay from now plus about £2000 to make it up, I think I'll give that a miss.
