He said: “I would lower the voting age to six, not 16. And I’m serious about that. I would want people who vote to be able to read, so I would exclude reception [age-children].

So would he stop illiterate adults from voting?

It's what we get for providing useless degree courses in non-subjects such as politics.

For a "non-subject", Politics has an awful lot of students on this sight.

Don’t let Stugeon hear about it. ‘Vote for me and get a free lollipop ‘. I think this idiot even outdoes May for rank stupidity.
Elections would be FUN he says! And he is the HEAD of the politics unit. Heaven help us!

My youngest granddaughter, slightly older than six, would vote for a unicorn. 🦄🦄

Politics is a non-subject for university degree purposes & there are no students on this site, just ordinary people with political views which are just as valid as the views of a Professor of Politics.

To be honest, I felt that lowering the voting age to 18, never mind anything less, was a big mistake. OK, I hear all the screams - you can marry at 16, drive at 17. fight for your country at 18 (TBH only that third makes the slightest impact upon me, having been a serviceman). BUT, think about it - who do you want to have a say in how the country is governed? Those with damn all experience of life, or those who have at least known a bit about it? TBH - if only you have a very little bit of life experience behind you, asking the inexperienced is - ' Christmas - yes or no!' Guess what the turkeys go for

I was a student years ago but most people I was still in contact with 20 years later were in jobs not related to their degree.
I think a degree only shows you can learn to a certain level.
My daughters are graduates in nursing which is regarded as a vocational degree.
Because nurses tend to specialise they think only about 20% of what they learnt at university is now useful to them in their day to day working lives.
I was speaking to a senior hospital doctor and even he admits to not knowing everything about being a doctor. These days some things happen very infrequently and he has to look them up on the internet.

A while ago I was speaking to a 17 year old who was at work paying tax.
I can see his point when he said as he was paying tax he should have some say in how his money is spent.

Why? I suspect most of us disapprove of one aspect or another of how the government spends our money.
